Hand and Wrist pain for 6 months - b12 Deficiency?

New to the forum, hi!

I've been dealing with hand and wrist pain near my thumb area for almost a half a year now with no success in reducing the pain thru splints, cortisol injections or rest. We've been treating it at a hand specialist as suspected De Quervain's Tenosynovitis but after a talk with my aunt, I'm wondering if it's linked to PA or a similar b12 deficiency?

My aunt told me our family has a hereditary b12 deficiency and that she, my great grandma, my uncle and some cousins have developed it. She described it as a pain around the thumb and wrist that seemingly came out of nowhere one day like mine in her 30s (I'm 31). There is trouble opening bottles, doorknobs and putting on clothes. She says she is sending me some vitamins she uses (b6 and b12, a specific kind) and that after a few days of taking them her pain goes away for typically about a year before needing more.

I was about to go back to my hand specialist but before I do I think I should revisit my PCP and inquire about my family history, other symptoms and see if there are any tests we can do to rule that out.

I had some hand pain about 5 years ago similar to what I have now and my aunt sent me vitamins back then that cleared them up after about a week or 2 on them. I cant remember if they were b12 atm. Back then I also had a scary bout of chest pain coupled with shortness of breath that felt like a mini heart-attack that left me laying on the floor for a good 20 minutes

I also have a lot of symptoms I never thought to connect with each other that also have me suspicious, such as fatigue, lethargy, depression and anxiety, GI issues, foggy memory, migraine-headaches and heartburn.

Has anyone else struggled with hand pain and if so was it related to b12 or PA or a similar issue? And are there any things I should ask the doctor about or request to help me?

I havent.My daughter has . She is 29

Do get hpermobility ruled out.often mis diagnosed.

Get your status of b12

Vitamin D folate iron all checked with a blood t. est before supplements.

So many conditions overlap

We all got so convinced it was varios conditions before she finally got a proper diagnosis.

Your hand specialist will know about hpermobility and is treating your symptoms . I wouldnt miss that appointment.

Only my experiences. T c

Thanks for the reply! I'm going in for some blood tests in about an hour, did a 12 hour fast in prep.

My aunt has mailed me the supplements she uses, I will wait until after the test to use them.

And I think I will keep my appointment with the hand specialist regardless of if they provide relief.

Yes, I had numbness in the hands, and aching in the finger joints. But since I've been having injections every 2 months at gp I haven't noticed these symptoms at all. I have recently started to self inject as well, so now I am getting an injection every month and I don't seem to have any symptoms now.

Thanks for the response!

This is helpful info. If my tests come back weird for b12 and oral supplements do not help I may look into injections!
