I’ve been SI every 10 days/12 days, depending on when symptoms reappear and this has worked great for a few months, however this last time it only seemed to last two days and my symptoms are back with a vengeance.. I’ve not taken anymore as yet because I’m unsure as to why the last dose hasn’t worked as normal, can this happen?? Should I wait til the 10th day again and muddle through. I did wonder if my iron infusion was maybe due but that is fine according to nurses yesterday.. any advise would be great Thankyou.. Happy New Year to all you lovely people too

Hope that you are getting a good supply of folate . If not take a 400 mcg folic acid tablet daily . It works together with B12 . Also I would give myself a B12 injection as often as necessary . . You cannot overdose . It can cause no harm .Overactivity can use up your B12 faster than normal . Best wishes .

Thankyou very much for that advice, I take 5mg of folic acid daily, I will take take another injection now, I do suffer from crohns and I’m systematic so that probably makes sense now that it’s been used up more quickly☺️Thankyou again ❤️

Stop taking such high doses of folic acid unless it is being prescribed by a doctor. You do not need it and it is potentially harmful. Ignore anything you might read on dangerous Facebook groups.

Hi, oh it is prescribed by my doctor fbirder, I don’t have fb or read anything other than you on here’s advice, Thankyou for your concern though I appreciate it ☺️

How often do you have your folate levels tested? They're only supposed to prescribe such high doses for 4 months unless there is proven malabsorption.

I have all my bloods done monthly, I am on biological treatment for severe crohns and this causes me to lose all my vitamins, iron etc. Do you think I should maybe query this folic with doctor as you have me a bit concerned and I’ve not even read up or anything on it, I just accepted the docs decision

What are your folate levels? If they are in the normal range then carry on with what the doctor is prescribing. If they are above range then question the doc as to why you're still on high dose folic acid and would a normal, 400 mcg dose do just as well.

I shall ask for my results, I get all confused at all the different ranges tbh, on Monday I was told everything is in its range but I wasn’t told any figures and that’s my fault for not asking, I appreciate your advice because I know my docs stick me on stuff and just carry on prescribing regardless

Do you not have online access to your records?

If you are in England then your GP's contract says that all patients should have had access to all prospective data on their record from April 2020.

Check out your GPs website.

Not all surgeries give you online access to your complete health record, mine only gives basic information, diagnoses and medications but nothing else. I now ask for a printout at the surgery reception if I’ve had blood tests, I get asked why I want them and I say that I like to keep a record and they print them out. My parents surgery is the same but as I’m listed as their carer they let me have theirs when I ask.

If my GP didn't allow online access to my test results then I would request a printout of all my results, every time they did a new test.

Yes I do ask now, some receptionists don’t like you asking and react as if you’re the only patient that’s ever asked for them but as you say, they’re out results and we’re entitled to them.I went for years believing that everything was okay when the receptionist said everything is satisfactory, the doctor doesn’t need to see you, just pick up a prescription for iron as soon as you can when I’d been anaemic for years. My b12 had never been tested before.
