Hi, I received my B12 vials from Germany today....very impressed with speed my ordered was processed from the company Versandapo . Thank you to everyone for their help and advice. I ordered using instructions posted by fbirder and will hopefully get started with SI when needles arrive. I have not had a B12 injection from my GP now for nearly a year....some advice on whether I should give myself loading doses would be welcomed ....thanks

Hi WW,Have you had your ferritin, folate, vitamin D checked recently ?

A good ferritin is required. Folate deficiency is treated after B12 deficiency, I believe (but someone may correct me).

Are your symptoms neurological ? It’s good to keep a diary.

I hope this helps as a start. 😊

Hi Narwhal10 , Unfortunately I do not have copy of my blood test results. GP just said my B12 levels were over 2000 so, I no longer needed injections. I explained that I was taking daily 1000ug B12 supplements as per their advice during Covid and he said well, just keep taking the B12 supplements as they are obviously working because your levels are over 2000. I told him my symptoms were all back including a burning tingling in my toes/feet he said all my symptoms are unspecific and just carry on with B12 supplements. He said my folic acid levels were low so he prescribed 5mg of folic acid per day which I am now taking. I have been taking 25ug of Vitamin D daily of my own accord for about 2 months now. I was first diagnosed with B12 deficiency in 2012 (a different GP practice who seemed more informed ) and after 6 loading doses I was receiving NHS injections every 12 wks until Covid happened.... then B12 injections were stopped at my surgery. I was just about managing with 12wkly injections although symptoms did start returning after 6/8 wks. But, now nearly 12 months without B12 injections I am really struggling and feel like I am facing a brick wall with my GP.....Sorry this is such a long winded post I've tried to condense my reply . When reading the posts from others I know I am not so badly affected but, I dont want my symptoms to worsen and I certainly do not want to take a chance of any irreversible damage. My Mom, her sister and brother suffered with B12 deficiency, her brother was so late in getting diagnosed he never fully recovered from muscle problems in his legs. I intend to SI once needles/syringes arrive next week...I just wondered if loading doses are needed again after 12 months without my B12 injections.

Sorry for not my poor understanding. You last had your bloods checked 12 months ago ? It might be worth being a private test if your GP is not playing ball. I know it’s more money and hassle. Hopefully, someone more experienced on this forum can be more helpful. 😊

I had bloods done about 6wks ago and my levels were over 2000 . But, when I had the blood test approx 6 wks ago I had been taking 1000ug b12 tablets daily for about 3 months ......which was following advice from GPs/nhs letter informing patients due to Covid ,B12 injections were being stopped and to take B12 tablets. GP said before injections could restart patients had to have blood test ,because my levels are 2000+ he said I do not need injections.....hope that's a bit clearer
