advice finding a doctor that will be open to weekly injections

I'm fairly new on here, and a couple of weeks ago saw mention of somebody that found a different type of doctor that was willing to give b12 shots more frequent, but it wasn't a normal MD or General Practitioner. Can't remember or find the post. I was diagnosed 8 years ago, but the burning in arms, hands and feet is worse than ever, along with many other side effects. Just trying not to give up really, but once a month b12 doesn't seem to ever make me feel even the slightest bit better. So I would really like to experiment and get more often, maybe even change the b12 to Methylcobalamin I see mentioned quite a bit. I'm in Northern California if anybody is local and knows of a caring physician, even if I have to do the injections on my own. I'd be willing to get a dr from out of area too and could send them the original reports, etc.

Why dont you self inject between your prescribed ones . Thars what I do now. Never dreamt I would but needs must. I do sc I between

Methyl can disagree with many . Stick with what you know!

unfortunately it's not as easy as that here in the US, one must get a prescription from a physician for the vitamin. Thank you for the reply though.

Oh yes same here in the UK. Prescription is needed.

I'm sorry to hear about your struggle to get what you need.

I agree with Nackapan that it's best to stick with what you know and to self-inject, at least in between your monthly injections given by your MD or GP.

It could be that you read my post, I wrote about anthroposophic physicians who have a more holistic approach.

I recall another post from somebody in the US who orders hydroxocobalamin or cyanocobalamin from Australia. Many people here order their medication from German online pharmacies because it's available otc here (and in Spain as well, as far as I know). I don't know whether they will deliver to the US or not. But maybe this will help you to bypass the need for a prescription or to find an MD who understands your condition and is willing to help.

The good news is that you will find support in this forum. Your fellow-sufferers have compassion, empathy, and will help you with their own experience. I am glad that I came along here, I wish we had something similar in Germany.

Did you ask you doctor for more frequent shots? I was prescribed monthly shots but found that the 4th week was rough for me. I asked my doctor if I could come in every three weeks for my shots and he said no problem. He also gave me a prescription for b12 so I could self inject if I want to.

Are you in the chapel hill area by chance? I do know a kind dr in that area. She is a DO rather than MD

I wouldn't have minded the fact the physician is a DO, only, I'm in Northern California. Doubt that would work out. Thank you for trying.

Hey - sounds like you need more frequent injections -- I do every other day, self injecting , at this point -- everyone has very different needs for the B12 and each of us has to figure out by trial and error what works for us. I do know that injections of methyl B12 require upping potassium intake alot, and closely monitoring Vitiman D, Iron, folate and B1. Also to absorb all the B vitamins you need a good baseline of Essential fatty acids. Jeez there is alot no one has told you -- get the book "What you need to know about pernicious anaemia & vitamin B12 deficiency" by Martyn Hooper MBE. If you want to talk or do a chat we could do that, I just hate typing endlessly. I am from northern Calif and live over in Utah now. Not sure how to do a "chat" with the chat feature I think clicking on the thought bubbles above does something. Anyway good luck!

First, thank you for responding and your willingness to chat, I understand about not wanting to type all day. I'm going to order the book you suggested. I just got off the phone with a Naturalpathic clinic in Sacramento and will be doing an initial free phone appt tomorrow morning. Got some quick pricing on the phone and it appears to be $160 for an initial 30 appt with DR there and then the receptionist I spoke with indicated coming in for injections and she didn't know if they would let me go with a script and allow home injecting. It's just that I want/need to keep the costs down as I'm not working and on Medicare. Anyway, wish me luck and that tomorrows phone appt goes well to get more frequent injections and with the methyl. P.S. Methyl B12 is the one to take if you have any nerve damage
