Doctors believe b12 injections toxic

I went to see my neurologist specialising in Ms and then told him about my b12 injections but I take. He believes b12 injections are toxic...,I think he doesn't know what he's talking about and he needs to do a bit more reading on vitamins. Does anyone else have any opinions on this?

It happened to me too. Not only was I told I was causing myself harm. I was also told psychologicaly addicted to them and I could get counselling. And as second neurologist seen discharged me on amitriptyline to go up to 150mg. I trialled 10mg. Although works for some

No good for me. I do wonder about their training or lack of with b12 and neurological problems. As still ill am paying as now discharged as don't know what else to do. Gps obviously put of their depth. So where has that consultation left you?

Great link Sleepybunny thanks for posting.

That should be turned into wallpaper & used to decorate every GP surgery & Neurologist office throughout 👍

Doctors used to believe in the Humours and the benefits of bleeding and leeches. A university degree doesn’t necessarily mean they know everything.

Thinking hydroxocobalamin is toxic just wrong and muddle headed so let them go on believing nonsense as they will just get all defensive if you try educating them

Tha canna teach poork as my Yorkshire friend once told me.

There can be benefits to bleeding and leeches.

So I understand but not as the first thing they do, a last resort perhaps. If any doctor came anywhere near me with a leech then they would probably need a nose job.

Yes very few doctors are humble enough to admit they are wrong and learn something from their patients. I had a gastroenterologist who told me too much B12 is toxic when I asked for more loading doses. I ignored him and got another 10 injections privately and felt much better!

Same thing happened to me - neurologist told me I would harm myself and give myself B12 toxicity ... that's the point in the appointment I lost all faith in him! I let it knock my confidence a bit - because it's hard trying to tell yourself you know more than the supposedly educated doctor. But, it's like one doctor said to me - if you've done a little bit of reading on b12, you'll know more than most doctors.

I’m convinced that a lot of the medical profession confuse B12 with B6 (which can be toxic if you take too much or take for too long)

Most doctors will admit they don't do major study of vitamins and nutrition in med school they study chemicals and reactions. I found even when you take some of them case studies and reports they are very dismissive. I found when this happens it's easier to look for another doctor, in the states, than it is trying to change their minds, don't know about other countries.

He’s ill informed (or he’s a quack). Fbirder is right, give him some facts and a long list of all your neurological symptoms.

Do you keep a logbook of your symptoms?

My neurologist is who prescribed B12 shots. I think you should look for a new neurologist.

I was told by someone on here ( probably Foggyme or Gambit62 ) that if someone is wasting your consultation-time by talking rubbish, don't get into a debate and waste more of your time, just say " Rubbish ! "

I've so far been told that B12 is "toxic / carcinogenic / highly addictive".

I've also been told that there is "a feeling of euphoria when you inject B12".

I could ask why eating liver has not killed anyone/ cockles don't give you cancer/ liver and cockles are not everyone's favourite foods.

I could also ask how sticking an inch and a quarter needle into your thigh with no training would feel like anything but desperation.....

or I could just say " Rubbish ! " because I've waited 8 months for the consultation, spent an hour in the waiting-room, got an hour and a half's journey back in rush-hour - and I need some sensible answers before I go.

Not what you're looking for?
