Folic acid is extremely important in many biochemical processes. One of the most important is in the making of something called thymine. This is an essential part of DNA.
If you can't make enough DNA then many things in the body don't work properly.
Buy some folic acid tablets from the supermarket and take one of those everyday for a month. That should boost your levels. They should be perfectly safe - in the UK all women of childbearing potential are recommended to take 400 mcg of folic acid a day.
