hi, I have PA for over 15 years and was advised to have injections every 8 weeks but over the last few years its not enough ans I wanted to try and gauge how often you guys injected with PA, especially now they are letting me do them at home
B12 frequency : hi, I have PA for over... - Pernicious Anaemi...
B12 frequency
I think everyone is so different. As you have had PA for 15 years and know 8 weekly isnt enough. Try 6 weekly or whenever you feel your symptoms are returning.
We had a survey about frequency and if I remember rightly it came out as most inject monthly.
The results from the poll taken can be seen under the heading "Topics" in right-hand column at the bottom. Click on "All Things Pernicious Anaemia" and then "polls" and you will find it.
We are all so very different. I self inject every three days to keep symptoms as under control as I can get them, my cousin is fine with an NHS injection every 6 weeks. Some people can manage well on one every 3 months. I'm not sure whether having PA or another cause of B12 deficiency makes any difference to finding this frequency. Hopefully current research will eventually enlighten us all.
Just my opinion this, but I would probably go by symptoms initially, see if there is a pattern for you. If the symptoms seem to return every 6 weeks for instance, I would then try and anticipate that by injecting at 5 weeks. There shouldn't be a need to regularly deteriorate before injecting.
