Hello! My doctor said I'm the first pa case she has diagnosed... So I want to make sure that it sounds legit if that makes sense... I have severe fatigue, numbness and tingling in my hands, feet, lower legs, chest pain (not cardiac), palpitations, headaches, n/v. My b12 was 240 and I had positive gastric parietal cell antibodies. They haven't done an IF test. She put me on weekly b12 injectioalns for 8 weeks then monthly. What do you think?

Thanks!

Your symptoms, combined with low B12 readings and positive parietal cell antibodies , certainly sound like Pernicious Anaemia. Your treatment isn’t what you would get here in the UK , so I’m assuming that you are in the USA?

Here, we get a “loading dose” of 6 B12 injections over 2 weeks , then an injection every 2 or 3 months . But if there are any neurological symptoms remaining , an injection every other day , until no further improvement.

Are you beginning to feel any improvement ? Are you also taking a modest. Folic Acid tablet -say 400mcg ? Also known as folate in food like green leafy vegetables, or vitamin 9 . This vitamin works synergistically with B9 , so it’s important that you have sufficient . BUT , don’t take a large amount . It’s possible to overdose ( but not on folate in food! ) . You cannot overdose on Vitamin B12 .

I’m sure that your doctor is following the protocol set for the USA . I hope that you soon feel the benefits of your treatment . Best wishes .

I was not given the I trinsuc factor test either. Apparently the parietal cell antybody test(which I had as well) not normally used now?

Tour regime sounds good . Hooe you feel the benefits soon

If you are in the US, it is my understanding that standard protocol is one shot a week for six weeks and once a month for the rest of your life. This is the recommended treatment though. Most doctors will work with you to find an injection schedule that works for you.

There isn't a standard protocol in the US - so differs from state to state and even from hospital to hospital.

Unless your doctor is very new I'm rather surprised that they haven't come across a case of PA before - probably have other patients that they have just missed - unfortunately not an uncommon occurrence.
