Hello - I felt a little queasy this morning from admittedly having a bit too much liquor. (I know, I know....) But, I vomited blood, which I have never done. It was not a ton but it was enough to see it swirl around in the bowl like 10 drops of red food coloring. Scary. I am now at the ER and am irritated with over a 2 hour wait. Has anyone had this happen? I was just diagnosed with b12 deficiency and am waiting on PA results. I have had major symptoms for about 4 months. Can this be caused by anemia?

Help! Vomiting blood?

First thing that comes to mind with me is possibly stomach ulcer... gastritis and issues with stomach are common with B12 deficiencies. B12 deficiencies can cause stomach issues as well.
Ulcers can bleed and can cause vomiting of blood. That's one idea that I have
Thanks Seth! I am thinking that could be it too. Ugh! As if I don’t have enough going! I have bruises all up my arm from muscle conduction test, which thankfully was negative for damage, by the past two blood draw this week (why the don’t do it all at once is a question I have!) and BOTH veins ruptured so I have huge black bruises on both arms. I look like I’ve been beat up! And now I’m in the ER for vomiting blood! 🤦♀️
ER doc ran bloodwork and says it does not look like there is constant bleeding so that is good and he did diagnose me with gastritis. I am sure it’s all related somehow but I admittedly have been not taking the best care of myself recently so I need to stop the triggers that irritate the stomach lining (alcohol, coffee, tomato sauce, citrus etc). He’s putting me on omeperazole and I know this can be a b12 absorption issue but he said I need it to repair my stomach lining and that since I am getting injections, that will take care of it for now. I have to see my GI doc (just by chance I have an appt Monday!) and he may want to do an Endoscopy. Bring it on, I guess! 🤣 Oh also if interest - he said my bloodwork looked “normal”
Other than b12 being off the charts for injections, and he said that’s a good thing (even though I’ve only had 4 injections, I swear I feel a tiny bit better. It may be in my head but the leg pain isn’t as bad and I feel a little more steady on my feet. Is it possible
For improvements to be so soon?)
If you have PA then you have gastritis.
When they finally see you mention that you have PA (not that you might have it, but you do have it). If they get a gastroenterologist who knows their stuff then they'll know what to look for, and will probably order a gastroscopy to check out your stomach and duodenum.
For me, too much alcohol is a huge trigger for a gastritis flareup. I have never thrown up blood, but have regular bleeding through the GI tract. I have cut out nightly cocktails and reduced to one or two over the weekend. I am also iron deficient, so bleeding causes a lot of related problems. No other real choice except to allow time for your mucosa to heal and be careful. Good luck.
Hi. I take 1 Omeprazole daily otherwise I will have heartburn. I also take Buscopan when my IBS flares up. I have cut out alcohol completely. One drink could sometimes make me feel as though my blood just wasn't right. It isn't worth risking that feeling. Also alcohol depletes B12. I also take medication for depression and another for anxiety which shouldn't be mixed with alcohol. I don't miss having a drink now. I have Alcohol free lager and lime. Alcohol free wine is good too.
