Hi I’m new here so I just got told my HGB was low 8.4 and dr wants me to get more thorough blood test done and I’m nervous. She asked me if blood disorders in the family which there’s not. She said not to worry but I cant help but worry, just wondering if anyone has gone through the same thing?

I'm also sorry this is worrying you.

I would get back to the doctor for a better explanation of possible causes.

Doctors say things and they can stay with us as we dont know what they are thinking unless they tell us.

Was your b12 tested?

Do you eat plenty of meat with vit c for absorbtion of iron.

Try not too worry as it will be treated. The cause hopefully found.

PA Pernicious aneamia is actually an auto immune condition.

Do ask for a B12 check if not done.

I'm not medical .

Take care.

Glitterpink07 - although this forum has anaemia in the title it is actually about an auto-immune condition that affects the gut meaning that you can't absorb B12 properly, one of the symptoms of which is a type of anaemia in which red blood cells are larger and rounder than normal.

The condition can also affect people's ability to absorb iron leading to an iron based deficiency in which red blood cells are smaller than normal .... and some people have both types of anaemia going on at the same time.

There are other types of anaemia as well.

The general causes of low haemoglobin would be either lack of iron or loss of iron. Lack of iron could be dietary or it could be an absorption problem. Loss of iron would normally be the result of a bleed.

What is your diet like in terms of iron? I presume your GP asked you about that.

Hi , it's good news that your GP is on the ball and going to organise more tests . I know it's easier said than done , but try not to worry . All the best .

Thanks to everyone I just went in this morning to get the test done, now the waiting game. I’m so nervous. She did tell me I didn’t need to go right away I could wait a couple days but honestly that would worry me more. I’ll update when I know anything.

Hello Glitter it seems to me the fact that your GP said that you do not need to go right away for results she is not thinking it is anything too serious also if the LAB finds anything that needs immediate attention your GP will be in touch with you try not to worry.Best wishes.
