My practice is not giving u jections but prescribing high dose b12 tablets 50ugs I think to be taken twice a day then a blood test in three months to see if my b12 level has risen.
I am light headed and have parathesia my last injection was 4 weeks ago hence it is 12 weeks since my last injection.

Low stomach acid is only important to activate the enzymes that break down protein and release B12 from proteins. The B12 in a tablet will not be bound to proteins.
However, the cells that make stomach acid are also the ones that make Intrinsic Factor. So low stomach acid is likely to be accompanied by low IF, and poor absorption of B12.
Thanks. It’s taken 6 years of injections so far and I have not had symptoms for 24 weeks now, in addition to parathesia and light headed ness I now have symptoms of IBS the latter would indicate low stomach acid -
That's what I've been told by my gp as well. Tablets then blood test in 3 months. He says there is a new "guideline " to move as many people as possible onto tablets instead of jabs. So basically they are waiting to see if people have symptoms before their b12 is reinstated. Nobody knows what this guideline is as the NICE guidelines haven't changed and the BSH dont advocate moving people to tablets permanently
When you ring my gps surgery about your b12 jab the receptionists are telling people they will be recalled later due to no face to face appointments and to take tablets. They are not being told that b12 patients are subjected to a clinical review. It's only because I insisted on speaking to my gp yesterday that he admitted they are as he put it using the pandemic as an "opportunity " to review b12 treatment.
