Surprised confirmation of B12 injection appointment

Just had a text message confirming my appointment tomorrow with the nurse for B12 injection and review. I was expecting a cancellation message. I will go at the appointed time with my B12 vial and see what happens.

Perhaps it's just an automated system which they haven't switched off. Only time will tell but perhaps I shouldn't build up my hopes.

If (hopefully) the appointment goes ahead and you have your own supplies of B12 ask if the nurse could let yo have a few needles so that you can inject yourself should your surgery close. This happened to me last week

I wish you well

Hi,

"for B12 injection and review"

The word "review" would make me wary.

Is it an annual medication review?

I'd be surprised if it was as I think this would count as non essential during pandemic.

I suggest being prepared with some useful info/letter to GP in case they announce they are stopping jabs during pandemic or changing them to oral tablets.

Useful links if B12 injections affected by pandemic

If they do plan to stop jabs....

You may want to pass on info about

B12 article from Mayo Clinic

Suggests

a) No proof that oral b12 is a good at treating B12 deficiency as B12 injections

b) Many current diagnostic tests eg serum b12, active B12, MMA, Homocysteine, are not totally reliable

c) Successful treatment should not be stopped

Symptoms Diary

On another thread, I suggested that people who are put onto oral B12 (or have B12 treatment totally stopped) should keep a daily symptoms diary and record if and when their symptoms return and keep GP informed by letter that symptoms are returning.

I am not medically trained.

Of course I hope you get your jab and they continue to be able supply them.

The review is the annual one that has been flagged as due early April on my perscription. Normally it is just a conversation to confirm I am still taking all the items and a blood test for under active thyroid. Normally without a review I can't submit a perscription renewal request.

I made the appointment early March before all the virus issues arise. I don't know what it will entail now.

I got my injection today. But don't know what will happen with the next one especially as they have held off approving my recent repeat request for more B12.

I may have been lucky as I made the appointment nearly a month ago but they could have cancelled it. I did ask about self injecting but the nurse said no, especially as things may be different when the next is due in 10 weeks time.

When I asked about the arrangements for the next one she couldn't answers as she said it all depends on the government directives at the time. She also suggested I try to last a little longer before asking for the next one. I didn't tell her I self inject.

Not what you're looking for?
