Hello Everyone,

I just had my first b12 shot yesterday and I am going to have 2 next week within 2 days.

How long will it take to see the difference in symptoms after having a b12 shot?

It depends how long have you been deficient for...my symptoms are improving after one year as I had terrible neurological damage... wat are your symptoms?

Thank you for your reply, I have been b12 deficiant from 2014 and my GP never told me about it. Readings were always between 170-200.

Couples of months ago I had some flu and gastric issues (black stool) and since then I am never the same.

Heart palpitations (fast heart rate), Loose stool, Shortness of breath, chest pain, Tremors, Muscle twitiching, Heart palpitation after a meal, Anxiety, Burning pain in left arm and around abdomen, Diziness.

Done 4 ECGS all normal, I am awaiting my echocardiogram result but cardiologist said that your heart looks fine. It is something else that is triggering your heart.

I went to medichecks to do full body check and everything was fine apart from:

HAEMOGLOBIN 125g/l (130-170)

HAEMATOCRIT 0.36 L/L (0.38 - 0.50)

RED CELL COUNT 3.83 (4.4 - 5.8)

Mean cell volume 95 (81 - 98)

Folate 2.57 (>3-20)

B12 Active 28.6 pmol/l (37.5 - 188)

Vitamin D 15 nmol (50 - 175)

I went to GP and he then prescribed me b12 injections and vit d tablets. I am not sure if all of my symptoms are B12 related but most of them are I think. I have also been tested for Intrinsic factor antibody which came back Negative.

Don’t worry you have early symptoms.. you should be fine in 3-4months..do share your feedback once you are doing well😊all the best

This is a question that’s often asked but unfortunately there’s no straight forward or correct answer.

It really depends upon your body’s response to the injections, how deficient you were to start off with, how much damage there is to repair etc etc.

Good luck, I hope you start feeling better soon.

I started on the 16th June this year. I have a lot of symptoms. I did the loading shots then I carried on every other day. I must warn you that if you were deficient for a long time then it could well get worse before you see any improvement.

I'm only a month in and I'm still in the worse before it gets better section. Some things seem to have got better whilst new things have appeared. Some have got worse.

Have a read of people's stories. Click on there names, have a read.

Hi,

I believe we are in the same diagnosis time frame. My blood tests were done end of June 2019 and first injection I received was on July 2nd. I have taken 3 shots 1000mcg so far and probably will continue weekly. My doctor said after the 4th he wants to do it biweekly but I think he is more concerned with the health department guidelines. My level B12 was 140 in 2018 and it was 112 in the most recent report. So I am deficient for quite some time. So I would request my doc to continue on the weekly therapy.

My symptoms which I probably ignored thinking it as side effects of quitting anxiety meds started 5 months ago. I had concentration problems, not able to focus, very lazy, shortness of breath and floaters in my vision and couple other vision symptoms. But how it all came down to for visiting a doc was in June of this year I felt terrible. I felt dizzy and super tired and weak like never before. I came early from work and lay down on the couch for 8 hours and still not feeling well. So decided to go to the emergency department and they said it’s just anxiety, well in the worst of my anxiety I never felt this way so that ER doc was a piece of joke. Anyways luckily a week after I went to a walk in clinic and spoke to a different doc and he suggested lets do a detailed blood report and guess what B12 and D super low. Got a call from docs office and started me on injections the same day.

I have noticed a couple times a burning sensation in my feet, some pins and needles, headache, chills, cold feet and hands, extreme health anxiety, hopelessness kind of feeling, ringing in my ears, and few other symptoms which now I believe were due to health anxiety.

But after 3 shots it seems things are progressing but I know it’s going to be a long process. So I don’t want to celebrate to soon. But I am very optimistic and hopeful. The almighty will heal us all. Keep faith and carry on.

Start your symptoms logbook. Record the severity of each symptom each day. You will see new ones show up. You may think things are actually getting worse. Energy comes back fairly quickly, but neurological symptoms take months and years as long as the neurological damage is not permanent.
