PA and b12 storage

Hello, so I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia and I have been getting weekly injections of b12. I was wondering if I still have the ability to store b12 for later use or if the b12 that I don't use is lost in urination?

I’ve read on this forum that if you have PA you are unable to utilise any B12 stored in the liver as that process still requires intrinsic factor, which will be lacking.

not just PA but any absorption problem with B12 - the ability to utilise any stores in the liver will be severely compromised/non-existent because the mechanism for releasing it - in bile for re-absorption in the ileum - relies on the same mechanism that allows you to absorb B12 from food, ie a mechanism that isn't working.

I hope I don't confuse you with my answer but first thing, you can't overdose VitB12, as you pass it out. Absorbtion is a different thing as your last two replies explained. But I do take oral VitB12 as well as my injections. 2x1000 tablets per day, which probably would be better as frequent small amounts than the large amount I take.

I know that I am only likely to absorb very little indeed from the tablets, but I am of the belief even if I stored a little more it may be worth it. I did a little experiement ...3 months ago I stopped the supplement, it wasn't long till my brain fog/memory was quite bad, I felt fatigue but I noticed a change in my mood, I felt really low. Anyway, 2 weeks ago I started the supplement again and there is Definately an improvement, so I am going to keep taking them for now. I also take folic acid and vitamin D. It works for me. Lastly, I bought a sublingual spray, which I use when I feel I lack energy. Hope this helps . Wishing you well x

There are people on this site, very knowledgeable, Gambit always has sound advice, that I appreciate. PA is a roller coaster and in many ways, it's trial and error till you feel well. Hope it all helps x
