Emergency, where can we get B12 injections quickly?

Ctb567 profile image

It looks like my GP is about to refuse my b12 injection due this week because of the Corona virus. I'm still waiting to hear back from them but given other posts I've read it doesn't seem likely. I'm calling private hospitals to see if they will give it but it doesn't seem hopeful.

Where can I get some needles and b12 quickly myself? The whole country is about to go into lockdown so I feel the need to get this done quick. Please can someone let me know of a reliable website based in the UK where I can get this from?

Thanks

I’ve just received my delivery of B12 (hydroxocobalamin) from Versandapo.de which only took about 5 days from ordering. Just in case anyone is wondering the use by date is 02/22.

I used google as my browser and it gave me the option to translate into English and paid using Amazon pay (I’ve read here of people having problems if they try and pay by card).

You need to order ‘vitamin B12 depot Rotexmedica’ to get hydroxocobalamin, which is what UK GPs provide.

I order my needles, syringes, pre injection alcohol wipes (possibly out of stock at the mo) and small round plasters from Medisave.co.uk and the sharps bin from Amazon. I’ve also used Amazon in the past for everything.

Thanks Jan, what needles do you order?

I used to use the same as the nurse or the GP used. Green to draw up and blue to inject. However, I’ve recently changed to purple to inject as it’s shorter and slimmer.

If tempted by the purple needle you need to be sure the needle will reach the muscle (I ‘pinched’ the skin above the muscle and made sure that the purple needle is 3/4 of that double skin thickness).

When you say green to pull up and blue to inject, what do you mean?

You’ve had the injections already at the GP?

You draw up the liquid from the vial using the green needle then put that needle in your sharps bin as you don’t want to use this as it could have been blunted by touching the glass vial. You then put the blue needle on the filled syringe, remove any air bubble and inject.

Hi JanD236

I have just tried again after having no luck with Versandapo earlier in the year and they have again refused PayPal, I dont know why some people seem to be able to order and others have problems, I am registered with them and go through the order okay but when it comes to PayPal payment I am sent back to review nothing happens. Managed to get some from Amazon. de last time but it seems strange some can order and others cant

:)

Sorry I can’t help as I don’t use PayPal. At versandapo.de I click on the option to pay by Amazon pay as I have an amazon.co.uk account and this works for me.

Hi Pitney, I used PayPal too. Is there something wrong with how your PayPal is set up? Have you tried using another card through PayPal? Could be worth emailing them to see what's going wrong.

The 70% alcohol swabs: I would advise not to order these even if available now as they may slow down your delivery. Medisave send whole order together -so would wait for the swabs before sending on.

(Some people here now don't use them anyway.)

Hi Jan, how do you store your B12 injection vials, should they go in the fridge? Mine have just arrived!

JanD236 in reply toCtb567

No need for fridge in the UK unless maybe in an extreme heatwave.

I just keep mine in a drawer, not in sunlight or next to a heat source.

What happening to the sharps box when full

My local council will make one collection a year of a sharps bin (and replace it with another). You’ll need to contact to arrange.

Hi,

There's some useful suggestions in next links which both have ideas on what to do if jabs are cancelled because they are seen as non essential.

From PAS website

From B12 Deficiency Info website

Have you looked into Private GPs in your area?

I have just ordered from vitaminB12online.com and although they are based in Australia have been dispatched fairly quickly, easy to order in English and payment by card ( as Paypal guest only - no account required ). Just done a self injection today first time and would encourage people to ‘take the plunge’ and it’s not as bad as you think. I watched the videos on YouTube and injected in my thigh. I found it far less painful than in my upper arm. Just make sure that you have removed all the air bubbles and you will be fine I’m sure. It’s not as bad as the horrid symptoms if you miss out on them and there is so much support on here I have been overwhelmed at the kindness and time people have given. Thanks to everyone who’s helped me and others on here x

There isn’t any supplier in the UK permitted to supply injectable substances without a Doctors prescription. Syringes etc are readily available in the UK from a number of sources.

If you are in the UK then message me with your address and I will have a daily exercise walk to the post office and send to one of the ampoules that came with my last repeat prescription last Friday. I have a two and a half year supply from Germany so you would not be depriving me. I will send an ampoule, 2.5mm syringe a blue draw up needle and an orange injection needle plus swab and spot plaster. Free of charge.

Hello I've just ordered some from Germany as suggested above but I've gone on medisave and there's so many different needles etc please can you advise which to order. Many thanks for the help on here! Dawn

in reply toDawnhulme

I can tell you what I last bought Dawnhulme, which was Terumo 2.5ml Luer Slip syringe without needle, Terumo Agani needle 23g x 1.25” Luer 6% Regular Bevel, BD Microlance 25g x 1” Luer Slip. The longer needle has a pale blue base and I use it for drawing up from the ampoule then change over to the shorter finer needle with the orange base for the injection. There work fine for both me and my daughter. Add in a pack of alcohol pre-injection wipes and spot plasters. You will also need a sharps disposal box.

I use a good quality man size paper handkerchief for holding the ampoule to snap the head off which I find stops me cutting a thumb or finger.

Best of luck.

Glad to be of assistance. I have actually just used one of each of those items to deal with a problem. It really does make a difference when you are in control.
