Pernicious anemia and protein deficiency?

Parietal cells can be damaged in pernicious anemia. These cells produce hydrochloric acid necessary for digestion of proteins. So I wonder if pernicious anemia could lead to some degree of protein/amino acid deficiency because of digestive problems, and if some of the symptoms people have could be related to this.

In the modern diet there is plenty of protein. The achlorhydria caused by PA might reduce the absorption of proteins, but not stop it totally.

The symptoms of a severe protein deficiency (kwashiorkor) don't resemble those of PA to any real extent.

It would make sense if HCL is necessary for digesting protein. I am susceptible to iron deficiency for what I understand is a similar reason - stomach acid is necessary to absorb iron. I take Betain Hydrochloride supplements - a stomach acid replacement in capsule form which is readily available from ebay/Amazon and may help.
