Does anyone know of a sublingual hydroxycobalamin without too many additives/etc please?

Hi

I'm trying to find something to boost my monthly injection for functional b12 deficiency. The injections have never really seen the month through, but were doing better than they are now, the symptoms seem to come back more severely and I'm struggling to cope with them. My ferritin is 28 at mo, so know this isn't helping, but am addressing that.

I've retested MMA (day before injection due) with Genova and it's saying its higher than should be and .1 below the red zone which equals too high. I'm awaiting my Drs opinion, and looking for sublinguals meantime. I'm not sure whether itS best to stick with hydroxycobalamin as it does help or to try the methyl or cyan...any help gratefully appreciated...

Thanks as always.

It will make no difference if You have PA because you won't be able to absorb it whether it's methylcobalamin or cyanocobalamin. Try one type and see if it does anything.

Thanks fbirder, it isn't officially p.a diagnosed, though only had one intrinsic factor test, but St Thomas said it as functional def, due to 260 on the nhs test and MMA at over 700. I'm just hoping I'm amongst the few that it helps a bit, long shot but will try one and see, thank you.

Hi fbirder, do you think the nasal sprays are any better absorbed then please?

No. Well, possibly.

The B12 molecule is too large to pass across biological membranes unaided. When it dissolves in saliva it encounters a protein called haptocorrin, and binds to it. That increases its size by 100-fold, so there's no way it can be absorbed.

But nasal sprays won't encounter saliva until they're swallowed. So they are more likely to be absorbed that anything sublingual. But I still wouldn't expect it to happen.

Thank you for the speedy reply fbirder, it sounds a bit more hopeful! I have a lot of sinus/inner ear infections and on a corticosteroid spray pretty much permanently, do you think it would be safe to use both? I'll have a Google....

There is some available through iherb.com

If you search for 'hydroxocobalamin' it should come up.

Many thanks...I'll have a look...I wonder why most sublinguals are either cyan or methyl, rather than hydroxy? Thanks again.....

Yes, it's hard to find hydroxy b12 as sublingual! I have been looking out for them and only found a few brands. I had a good reaction to the prescribed hydroxy b12 injection but such a poor reaction to methyl b12 sublingual so thought a hydroxy b12 sublingual might work based on that - just as a daily top up between B12 injections.

Seems to be in dollars, so am presuming this is not uk based?

I'm pretty sure they ship worldwide but you might need to go to the checkout page to change to your currency.
