Hi I have just been to a private GP regarding my PA as my NHS GP will not give me injections more frequently than once every 8 weeks despite neuropathy in my feet and legs. She gave me a shot immediately and I noticed the difference almost straight away. She asked me to get my folate tested as she thought I may not be “methylating “ so may need methylcobalmin instead of hydrocobalamin. Can anyone explain what this means please

Methylating
Yes, it means that the private doctor doesn't know what she's talking about. See this document for why she is wrong about methylcobalamin and 'not methylating' (whatever that is supposed to mean). b12science.com/B12Science/D...
A folate test would not show up any problems with 'methylating' as it measures all forms of folate - 'methylated' and 'non-methylated'. b12science.com/B12Science/D...
My only suggestion is to be aware that limited scope scientific studies done on a cellular level may not apply to ALL humans. We are all different in many respects, along with different genetics and comorbidities. All can and will have differing effects. IM Cyano had a decent effect on me, but despite daily injections, some symptoms returned. SQ Methyl has been great for me. I feel as though a veil is being lifted from my brain and my physical stamina is better. Not great, but a little better. I am now at a record 16 days with no symptoms of my typical PA crashes.
Either, or neither may have a dramatic effect on you. But I do have other issues that can contribute to why Methyl works well for me, such as CKD-3 and hypothyroidism.
It is a long and frustrating road, especially when dealing with physicians that do not have or care to learn anything new about PA and the many ways to treat it.
In my early days of molecular imaging, we used Co-57 as a common tracer to diagnose many metabolic functions. But we have learned many things in the last forty years. Just remember to see what works for you and do not dismiss a possible pathway just because your doctor or friend said "this". And that certainly includes myself. Best wishes and good luck.
