I've been diagnosed with p.a. for about 2 years now. I'm 49 and have gone through the menopause. My question is, should I be taking any particular vitamin supplements,I understand that I can't absorb B12 and am resigned to the fact that I have to get injections ( actually I'm incredibly grateful I got such an early diagnoses before any damage was done) but the doctor didn't mention vitamin supplements and a lot of the posts here Seam to relate to them
Many Thanks.

It should be caught in time!!!
Thanks for taking the time to reply, yes I was Very lucky,I had donated blood and it was all ok and when I went back in 6 months to donate again they tested and let my gp know, it was all Very efficient and reading these posts I can see how lucky I am. Thanks for the advice on the supplements.
Having low B12 doesn't increase the body's need for any other vitamins or minerals.
Have you had folate, Vitamin D and iron levels measured?
The low stomach acid that is caused by PA can cause problems with absorption of folate and iron. Most people in the UK are deficient in Vitamin D during the winter.
Thanks for taking the time,I really appreciate it,I think I will take the supplements you suggest, it definatly won't do any harm. I have no symptoms this is purely preventative.
Be careful about the iron supplements. Too much iron can be worse than too little. I've had iron deficiency anaemia a few times in the past but I still take a fairly low-dose supplement - Solgar Gentle Iron with just 20 mg per capsule.
Get a copy of your last couple of blood test results - they have to give you them by law in the uk. Look to see if they checked your ferritin, vit d and folate. Ferritin should be about 80 for a women, vit d about 100 and folate in the high teens if your on b12 injections.
Best to know your numbers beforehand, then you can see if the supplements are working when you get future blood tests.
