High b12 levels

Had P. A. for 14 years now, got blood tests back today and my B12 level was 1713, the norm is between 197/771 here where I live in Italy.

Has anyone any idea why it would be so very high? T. I. A x

Your blood levels will be high if you’ve been receiving regular injections of B12 (which I’d hope you have been given your diagnosis of PA).

Thank you for your reply, my last test 4 years ago showed a level of 830, so I was a little alarmed, am awaiting appt with hematology, I have other levels out of the range too

I have weekly injections and the last blood test I had (taken against my wishes along with other tests) showed B12 was above 2,000.

Gosh, that's very high!!! I think it's a strange condition this P. A. it seems we all have different issues.

From what I’ve read on this forum my level is what you’d expect given my frequent injections.

I have injections once every 4 weeks and mine had never been over 1126 even when testing a week after injection. Today I'm symptom free on my test on 2/27, 3 weeks after injection was 683. That's my body, however. So unless this person is injecting more than once a month, this is very high for someone on simple maintenance of b12.

Thank you sweetcheeks! I will see what the specialist makes of it all, have numb hands and arms that feel like lead, my right foot goes numb on occasion too, obs this makes me clumsy, sure it's something that can be corrected easily, but it's such a nuisance feeling like this, I have my b12 jabs every 2 months btw but also take a vitamin syrup which seems to really perk me up!

Looks like you need more frequent injections of vit B12! Don't let your high blood value blind you or the doctor. The treatment must be based on your symptoms, not your blood value!

Thank you Gaelle, I'm in Italy so thankfully don't have problems requesting more frequent b12 jabs, England is a nitemare, I recall asking my doctor for my jab a week early once because I was going on my holiday, the partners had to ok it, it's a joke!!!
