Urine

I am sorry, this might sound stupid but I always thought that you pee'd the excess b12 out and your urine would be yellow. Infact when I got my loading doses from the gp my urine was indeed yellow but the last couple of times (I get them 3 monthly) and since I've started self injecting it hasn't been. I'm worried incase there is something wrong. I have PA. and have some awful symptoms. I need these injections but now this is concerning me and I can't talk to my gp...she just dismisses me.

Yellow's normal, with or without B12 excretion after dosing. Unless, that is, you have a really huge amount of B12, in which case your pee may be pinkish for a short while.

Sorry Dollery I haven’t explained myself properly. I know it is normal for it to be yellow in fact it was bright yellow when I first started getting loading doses. The problem is, the last few times it hasn’t been and as the nurse said it should be bright yellow because the body is getting rid of the excess, I am now worrying why it’s not. Are my kidneys not doing their job properly? I can’t ask my gp..she just isn’t interested.

Perhaps you've been drinking more so more dilute? The only time my urine is bright yellow is after my multi vit. I had every other day b12 injections for quite a while.

Thanks Nackapan. I don’t think I’ve been drinking a lot but relieved to hear yours is the same

I only have really yellow wee when I’ve taken my B complex, never noticed any difference after injections x

Are you taking anything else? Vitamin B2 is famous for bright yellow pee.

I think I’m confusing everybody. I’m worried because my per isn’t bright yellow. The nurse told me it was normal to have bright yellow pee after b12 injections because you should discard the excess. So because I’m not having it like she said I should, I was worried that something was wrong. Thank you all for trying to help. I really have no one else to ask.

No need to worry if your urine is not bright yellow after B12 injections Goaliegirl. It doesn’t mean that something is wrong or that the B12 isn't being used and excreted properly by the body.

Many things affect the colour of urine as well so other things will impact on the degree of 'yellowness’ (or not) - even when on B12 jabs.

I never have bright yellow urine after B12 jabs.

Think your nurse might have meant that it can happen sometimes, so don't worry if it does, rather then it always happens to everyone (if you get what I mean).

All in all, nothing to worry about (in terms of urine colour and B12 Injections).

👍

Thank you so much Foggyme. You have eased my mind. It's awful in this day and age that your gp can "eventually" diagnose you with PA but then tell you the very symptoms that led her, after many years to give in and check you out....are now according to her "nothing to do with PA" I went to her many times telling her that the awful fatigue that I was feeling was ruining my life. That I was falling asleep while the children I work with were talking to me. Her answer was...I fall asleep too some days. It wasn't until I came and told her I was giving my job up that she decided to run tests. But now she dismisses me...I am having injections every 3 months so it's a case of "run along now" I am so very grateful for the help I receive on here cause if It wasn't for all you I would know nothing.

If you are still getting loads of bad symptoms it probably just means that your body is using all the B12 it is getting and therefore doesn't have any excess to colour your urine.

If you increase your jabs until you aren't getting any symptoms then it may well start to go yellow again, suggesting that you finally have topped your levels right up to "overflowing" - which is good and shows you aren't deficient anymore. This might be a good indicator of whether you are getting enough for you or not and something to aim for - to try to be symptom-free.

If you do frequent jabs make sure you have enough supporting supplements to go with the extra B12. Many people benefit from a broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement plus extra folate, potassium, magnesium and iron, ideally from their diet. Vitamin D levels are also worth checking.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

That makes sense, thank you. I will keep on and hopefully the symptoms will start to go. Hopefully it will soon be me helping people instead of torturing them lol.

I self inject weekly and never have yellow wee unless I take a multivitamin with b6.I feel your pain regarding unconcerned GP that's why I self inject.

Thanks Margareta, I feel much better about things now. Looks like gps don't know or don't want to know about PA and B12 deficiency.

Its B6 that classically gives urine the bright yellow colour, not B12. I only get yellow pee after taking B Complex, never after self injecting B12.

That's so good to know Naturegirl8. Hopefully soon all this will be second nature to me. Until then I will keep on injecting. Thank you.

Such a shame at doctors dismiss us. It is our bodies and we know how we feel. Good luck.
