Could consumption of boost energy drink be the cause of my high b12 reading?

It has 95% of the recommended b12 daily intake somedays I have 2 cans! My last b12 reading 1200ng (range 200-650 approx)

I’m due to have my liver scanned on Tuesday

the amount of B12 you can absorb from a single meal is quite limited so it's unlikely to be the cause of the raised B12 levels if you are taking 1-2 cans ... unless of course its confusing measurements on the can - many quote the %-ages in relation to a portion of the total amount in the can.

I have come across one medical report of elevated levels of B12 due to use of high energy drinks but it was reported as rare and the consumption was very high.

Thanks for your reply.

On having a second look at the ingredients the actual amount of b12 in each 250ml can is 50% of the rda.

Can my b12 blood reading be high but im actually deficient?

I seem to have different symptoms every week from extreme fatigue, sore bones , liver pain, greasy stool, extremely irritable nightly cough and bouts of burping to finger and toe pain which comes and goes! I’m going to have a scan tomorrow hopefully I’ll have some answers soon

functional B12 deficiency - high serum B12 levels but all the symptoms of B12 deficiency is a recognised symptom of a number of conditions that can raise serum B12 levels - namely liver and kidney problems - its as if something about raised serum B12 levels makes the process that allows B12 to go from your blood to your cells becomes much less efficient so your cells are no longer getting all the B12 that they need. Two key processes that use B12 in your cells are recycling MMA and recycling homocysteine so there is a very good chance that these will both be raised if you have a functional B12 deficiency.

Your GP is doing the right thing by investigating the liver. Have you had blood tests to look at kidney function?

Having my bloods taken weekly but don’t think any for the kidney function.
