Just wondered if anyone has benifited from taking a pro biotic with PA, my 14 year old daughter receives b12 injections due to part of instrinsic factor that came back positive, still awaiting confirmation of PA through specialists that taking there time, currently have her on gluten free and lactose free food as her stomach becomes upset on certain foods, also looking into preservatives that may cause this as she can eat bread and pasta without problem but a donut or cookie, she suffers, just wondered if pro biotic would help but will discuss with doctor first?

If your daughter has PA (and a positive test for IF antibodies is a pretty good indicator that she does) then she almost certainly suffers from achlorhydria - a lack of stomach acid. Because the PA kills off one type of stomach cell - they type that makes acid.
Low stomach acid can have any effects. One of which is that bacteria that shouldn't be living in the small intestine can set up home there. Many of us take a probiotic to help make sure that only the right type of bacteria are in there.
I can eat some bread and pasta. But certain sweet foods cause havoc. I discovered that it is fructose that does for me. Many processed sweet foods contain fructose (or high-fructose corn syrup) as a sweetener. High levels of fructans also have a similar effect - so I try to stick to sourdough bread as most of the fructans are fermented.
Yes she cant drink chocolate milk either yet she can have creamy pasta, so you are probably right but would pro biotics help at all, we have another specialist appt in fortnight which i shall push to investigate stomach further as 1st appt they re did bloods and tested for inflammation in stomach and tested stool sample but ive had no results to date nor sent through to doctor?
Thankyou for post it makes more sense to me now when what pa does in stomach is explained
Just checked her results she was positive to gastric partial cell antibody but negative to intrinsic factor antibody?
Having a negative result for Intrinsic Factor Antibodies , does NOT mean that your daughter doesn’t have PA . You can test negative and still have PA - the GP should know that , but some do not . It’s quite common .
Did she have a endoscopy? With parietal cell antibodies she could have the beginnings of autoimmune gastritis, although I hope not.
With gastritis in any case they advise not to eat processed sweet foods. I have gastritis and don't tolerate sweet foods well at all, but can eat pasta, sourdough and whole grain breads. I can eat honey too.
No nothing as yet as waiting for second specialist app but will be pushing to investigate the stomach area, we have sorted her low iron and b12 for now through doctor but specialist needs to investigate it further which frustrates me as her last appt with them was November, he re did all bloods that doct had previously performed but also did stool and inflammation test on belly but as said ive had no results back, then says see you in four months????
I recommend a Probiotic would help sbadd with stomach problems / discomfort.
I have PA & (positive intrinsic factor)
& take the Probiotic 'symprove '.
It really helps .
Hope all goes well.
