Hi all. Can you advise.. the bloods results are my kast taken. Sinse then my levo has been up to 100mcg. Im also hashi . Low normal vit d aswell

Ive been trying to get the gp to help me with my b12 but its just not happening..he will not investigate any further.. i havnt suplimented my b12 at all as ive been told i need a mma or infrinsic factor test.. but im also being told its low normal and to treat it with supliments now and worry later if things dont get better..

Symptoms at present.. right ear pressure feeling. Right cheek sensory feeling. Right side tight neck.. hip pain that comes and goes.. tingling right foot sometimes.. tinitus in ears.. vision can become blurry some days worse than others.

Low energy on and off

What do you idvise and suplimenting ??

Thank you everyone..

I don’t know who told you your B12 is low, but they’re wrong.

Hi fbirder. Sorry... I mean low normal... I should change it really.

certainly keep an eye on the B12 - falling levels are the thing to look for as much as low levels.

supplementing with a bog standard dietary supplement - up to 10mcg wouldn't affect identifying an absorption problem - and if it makes you feel better it would imply that you may have dietary issues.

Generally iron problems are the first to manifest in patients with hypothyroidism and your ferritin suggest that you don't have a problem with iron at the moment.

The chances of developing PA if you have hashi's seem to vary between 10% up to 40% in studies of the crossover (it ends up around 40% the other way round - PA to hashis).

There is a high crossover between the symptoms of hypothyroidism and B12 deficiency and your symptoms could be down to the thyroid not being under control at the moment. TSH of 3.2 may be in the normal range but most hypothyroid patients on level seem to need it nearer if not under 1 to feel okay so may be the change in dose will do the trick. Unfortunately getting levels of levo right can be really tricky.

Hi gambit... Thank you for yr reply was a great read.. im now on 100mcg so my tsh should be better.. so i thought id try and get a better b12.. so you would say not to worry about mma or if... But to start suplimenting to raise the b12 ?

my advice would be to wait and see how the increase in levo goes and not assume at this point that you need to do anything about B12 levels.

I know there is a lot out there about hashi's patients needing B12 levels of 500+ to be optimal but I'm not aware of any scientific evidence to support it. B12 has a huge range because different people are okay at different points in that range. Body tends to regulate B12 where an individual needs it and that could be anywhere in the range or even just above or just below so to pick a point and say that applies to everyone is a nonsense.

Watch out for dropping levels but other than that don't worry and don't waste money on MMA or any other tests at this point

Hi gambit.. we chatted a while back and i took your advise.. i had my active b12 results back this week...

Last December active b12 was 49.7. R 37.5-188

This March active b12 72.1 r 37.5-188

I didnt supliment at all. Just used food... Plus went up to 100mcg levo..

So i guess you was right not to test further..

Im now gone in a b complex and use the b12 spray.. would this be ok???

to be honest I wouldn't supplement B12 given your active B12 results just keep an eye on things. I also wouldn't bother with the B complex unless you have reason to believe that you are actually deficient.

Hi there..ok. i will stop.. and keep an eye on it.. cheers for that ...yr happy with my levels?? My folate is 8.27 ugl..

Only other thing now is ive gone over range on vit d... 203 r 50-175 .. any tips on lowering it apart from stopping vit d for a while..

Thanks for advise on not further testing on b12 .. that was good advise.... 😁😁😁

not really an expert on vitamins - you could try speaking to pharmacist but I suspect the only way of lowering will be to reduce supplementation

Yes from what i have read.. i will just stop taking it for a little while. 375 seems to be the toxic level..

Thanks for your help gambit... 😉😉😉
