I have been battling an abundance of symptoms the last few months that have really disabled me. My dr called last week with the following diagnosis: vitamin d deficiency (26) and vitamin b12 deficiency (288).
Here is a list of my symptoms:
• dizziness
• lightheadedness (gets really bad like I’m constantly gonna collapse)
• pale face
• fast heart rate when I get up and move around
• off balance when walking
• blurry vision
• dry mouth and skin
• disorientation and confusion
• breathlessness
• random head and ear pressure
• blood pressure fluctuates
• high anxiety
• legs are really weak when walking sometimes
• no energy
• trouble sleeping sometimes
• head just feels weird
I know I probably left some out but these symptoms are the ones I deal with on the regular. I used to have some good days and bad days but the last month has been bad days everyday. I just started supplements a week ago. Vitamin D3 5000 a day and vitamin b12 5000 a day. I felt good, better than I have in a while, the first days of supplementing. But yesterday and today, I feel like I did before I started. Is it normal to fluctuate from feeling good and not? Can it get worse before it gets better? How long should I give it before I need to look into something else being wrong? I do have an MRI scheduled in 3 days to make sure. But I’ve been cleared by cardiologist 6 months ago, ENT this month. It’s just crazy to me that allllll of this is from being vitamin deficient. Anyone that has any input will greatly help with my anxiety dealing with all of this. I know my anxiety intensifies the symptoms but it’s unavoidable right now until something changes. If you can, pleas reply with your experiences in this and I’ll answer any and all questions that are left on this post. Thanks so much for reading.

I initially tried B12 patches when I found I had low B12. They worked for a couple of days, in that the extreme shortness of breath abated, but all the symptoms ( numb finger tips, tinnitus , hand tremor, loss of balance etc) were still noticeable.
As I tested negative for PA, the GP was not interested and said my B12 of 198 wasn't low.
With help from here, and a couple of YouTube videos, I started self Injecting. It cured all the symptoms except the fatigue ( due to another health condition) If your GP won't help with loading injections as per guidelines to treat patients with symptoms, you might have to consider self injecting. Check your folate levels too as that needs to be optimal to support B12.
This is based just on my experience, I'm not a medic. Learn all you can about B12 deficiency on here and you'll be in a better position to make a choice to help you feel healthier.
I had most of your symptoms when diagnosed b12 deficient 6 years ago - it’s usual for the doctor to prescribe 6 b12 injections over 2 weeks then another injection every 12 weeks. I’m still getting symptoms after all this time although many original symptoms have ceased and others reduced. There is no quick fix as it takes a long time for b12 deficiency to reveal itself.
I’m going to ask again about the injections when I go back to dr this Thursday. It definitely can’t hurt anything to try an injection and see if it helps better than just the supplements. I guess I am hoping for a quick fix but now that I’m gaining some knowledge on vitamin deficiency, I clearly see there is no quick fix. I just want my life back. I do nothing but lay around bc that’s the only time a lot of symptoms will cease. And I’m far from being a lazy person. It driving me very crazy that I can’t do and go like I want to. I’m scared of being alone “in case something happens” when before, I enjoyed a little “me” time. Thanks for responding. It really helps knowing I’m not alone.
Hey dingusgirl, I know how you feel, now it's a tough call trying to get all these issues resolved, and lack of B12 causes a heck of alot of other problems, I had to explain or beg my GPS for a blood test and raise the problem myself with them, even though I have all the classic symptoms, and yep the results showed I was correct in my thoughts, but I now feel that the injection don't last long enough in between each dose, 3 monthly, all the symptoms are back, headaches, pins and needles, muscles twitching, and a few other things toilet habits, lack of appetite, and poor sleep patterns, it's a minefield to sort out, I've had numerous problems with my stomach for years and even taking my omeprazole for the rest of my life affects absorption of B12, so that and having several general anaesthetics affects the stomach, so if you have any stomach issues this can also be a cause to your possible problems, and getting stressed out also won't help with your cause, (easier said than done) so persevering and getting as much information can help you find a solution to your problems, sorry its not a medical response, but more of a input, good luck for now, thanks.
Thanks for your response. Sometimes I just get really overwhelmed dealing with all of this. Today I’ve had the problem of heart rate getting up when I move around the house. I was just walking around doing minor stuff today and hr got up to 124. Of course it subsides when I sit and relax but I’m tired of relaxing. I feel like a lot of people I guess, that something else has to be wrong with all these symptoms.
I have only just seen your post. I have had every symptom on your list! Mine were so bad last May bank holiday i packed a bag thinking I would be in hospital after calling my Drs surgery and being told I needed to come in that morning.
Long story short. My B12 was extremely low and had been missed two years previously. I am now taking a supplement every day and have three monthly injections. I am still not back to what I would call normal but am better than I was last year. The anxiety is awful I know. I have far too much to try and say here but I wish you well and really hope you have some improvement soon.
Thank you so much for you response. It really is the scariest thing I have ever been through. I honestly thought and still sometimes feel like I’m dying of a serious illness. It helps more than I can explain to hear that I’m not alone in this and that the symptoms can be from just the vitamin deficiencies alone. I hate to know that others know how I feel bc I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. But it calms down my anxiety tremendously hearing of others dealing with it too. I just had my first injection Thursday and take daily D3 supplements and can already tell a difference. Unfortunately we never heal as fast as we wish. I know it’s going to be a long road ahead of me but as long as we are headed in the right direction, there is hope for us all. If you ever need to talk anything regarding all this craziness, just message me. Bc I know for me it helps a lot to talk to someone going through it too.
