Hi all I Do not have Pernicious Anemia but my b12 we’re low in June 2016 so had 6 injections but it never got above 400. Then 2 years later it’s slowly been falling where now it’s 229 and the doctor is making me wait for a re test in three months before doing anything but I feel awful. All the symptoms I had before, lethargy, breathing difficulties, anxiety, gut issues etc but now I can see all my results online I’ve alost noticed across 2 years 4/6 tests show low HCMC and when they aren’t low they’re literally.1 or 2above min. Is there a link?

All my other levels are fine in Full blood count

How do you know you don’t have PA? There is no reliable test for it. Unless you have another likely cause (you are vegetarian, you take PPIs or metformin, you abuse nitrous oxide) then PA is the best guess for your deficiency.

Why is your doctor waiting? You should be getting injections, probably for life.

Do you mean you have a low MCHC (Mean Cell Haemaglobin Concentration)? That is most commonly caused by iron deficiency anaemia. It’s common for people with PA to also have an Iron deficiency.

fbirder well I’ve not been diagnosed with it but for years I’ve had the same symptoms, various blood tests not never a diagnosis of anything. I have taken PPIs but stopped about a year a go now take ranatidine or Gaviscon if needed but not all the time. I’m also on contraceptive pill which I’ve read can affect b12?

I don’t know what he’s waiting for my b12 hasn’t risen on it’s own though diet etc in the past two years so I don’t know why he won’t give me injection unless he just needs it to fall below recommend to then issue the injection.

Yes MCHC sorry. How would you know if you had iron deficiency? All my other full blood results were ok.

I’m also lacking vit d which might be contributing to me feeling so rubbish but been taking supplements for around 2 weeks now
