Injecting B12 doesn't increase the body's requirements for any other vitamin or mineral in the long term. In the short term (first few weeks) you may need a small amount of added potassium.

Hi mrshofflecake personally I have taken 1 – Folic Acid 400μg and 1 – Iron Ferrous Fumarate 210mg tablet every day for more years than I can remember and I too am on monthly B12 injections due to having gastric surgery 60 years ago which led to my not being able to absorb nutrients normally.

This of course may not apply to you, but it might pay to have your Folate level checked as this works with B12 to make red blood cells.

I am not a medically trained person but I've had Pernicious Anaemia (one of many causes of B12 deficiency) for more than 46 years.

I wish you well.

P.A. patients have low/no stomach acid Hypochlorhydria/Achlorhydria, caused by the antibodies that attack the parietal cells , which produce the Intrinsic Factor and stomach acid .Therefore , vitamins and minerals are not absorbed so efficiently from food . I take a modest vitamin and mineral tablet daily . ( not containing massive quantities )

Also it’s important to chew your food really thoroughly to get the advantage of well masticated food with plenty of saliva which kick-starts the digestive process .

Hi!

Most people benefit with B12 from taking a broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement plus extra folate, potassium, magnesium and iron.

Google these to see the effects of deficiency and excess and what sources you might like to eat and drink.

It can be tricky to get the balance of everything right but keep trying - good luck!

Testing for VitD could be helpful as most people have very low levels. 100 is a suggested level in the UK. Multi-vits rarely contain enough to raise levels if low.

The above link contains graphs - indicating levels required to prevent many illnesses. Just be aware the UK measurement for VitD is pmol/L and the US is ng/L. Just divide the UK result by 2.5 if you have one. They used to have both charts on the website. 😊
