Hi, Ive recently been diagnoses with Pernicious Anaemia and I m due to move to Portugal very soon. I am now into week 2 of my injections and after the 3rd this goes to monthly for 3 months then quarterly. What I'm concerned about is how I get these injections whilst living abroad ? does anyone have any advice please ?

In some european countries, you can buy B12 to inject ,over the counter from a pharmacy...not sure about Portugal.
Have you thought about joining and talking to PAS?

Hi lifegems,
If you can't buy them over the counter in Portugal you can buy them online. I get mine from versandapo.de and the needles and syringes from Amazon. You are obviously going to register with a doctor in Portugal, and maybe they will continue providing the injections, you never know! In the UK tge guidelines state that you should get them every 2 months with neurological symptoms and every 3 months without.
Good luck with your move, it sounds exciting!
Thanks for this still trying to work my way through this. My Dr passes me over to the nurse and she thinks I over react and I simply have a vitamin deficiency . I've had about 5 injections so far over 4 month period and now she's told me when they test the blood count if it's normal the injections stop ! I'm thinking the self medication route but feel wary about injecting myself. I'm assuming the needles you can buy are sterile ? 😃

Ask her if she knows what 'pernicious' means. Perhaps she'll change her tune when she realises you simply have 'Deadly Anaemia'

Ridiculous. This is like saying to me (a diabetic) that my Hba1c is back to normal now, so I can stop taking metformin. Or that somebody's heart is now OK, so they can switch off their pacemaker.
The reason your blood will test as normal will be because of the injections.
