Newly diagnosed with PA help please

Hi

i have recently been diagnosed with PA and have been told i have a B12 level of 89.

i have issues with fatigue, headaches but most of all balance issues which makes me walk like i`m drunk all the time :(.

i have also had 2 spinal fusion operations last year which have caused nerve damage in my right leg and 10% feeling in right foot due to a screw coming loose and embedding in nerve root after the first op. i believed my balance issue where all down to the nerve damage but now after being told i have PA i`m not so sure !

I only found out i had PA when i went into hospital because of these balance issues and the spinal surgeon asked for blood tests to be run.

i finished my loading doses about 3 weeks ago and during these felt rough the next day after the injection but great the next day.

My GP has said i`m not due another injection now for 3 months now and am feeling worse each day.

i know from reading articles on PA alot of people self inject and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for buying supplies etc please

Because you have neurological symptoms , you will need Injections every other day ( EOD)until no improvement is perceived . Thereafter an injection regular enough to keep the symptoms at bay . could be daily or every three month e or anything in between —We are all very different in our needs . But be assured —you cannot overdose on vitamin B12 . A daily modest folic acid tablet is advise ( 400 mcg ) it works together with b12 . B12 ampoules require a prescription in U.K. But not in Germany , where we can find excellent online pharmacies which are controlled by the German Health authorities.

Here is the information that you need .

The following German online pharmacies will deliver B12 single use ampoules to U.K. .

apohealth.de Site is obtainable in English (Union flag, bottom left on my device ) also deliver World wide but not to Australia or New Zealand .

versandapo.de Site is in German . Use Google chrome to obtain translation .

The following brands are obtainable

Panpharma ( formerly Rotexmedica ) b12 depot 1mg x 1ml ampoule ( depot indicates Hydroxocobalamin) ref no 16199653. This is the most popular ampule used by PAS members .

It is the best value , but sometimes is out of stock . You can then opt to be emailed to be told when it is back in

Hevert b12 depot 1mg x2ml ampoules packet of 10

Ref no 06078368

Hevert b12 depot 10 packets of 10 ampoules- ( 100)

Ref no 06078380

Pascoe B12 depot 1.5mg x 1ml ampoules- Packet of 10 ref no 07568672

Pascoe b12 depot 1.5 mg x 1ml ampoules-10 packets of 10 ampoules (100)

To inject Intra-muscularly( I.M.)

You will need a long 1 1/2 inch x 21G withdrawing needle to withdraw the b12 from the ampoule

A 1inch x 25G injection needle

A 2ml syringe

A pack of alcohol swabs

Inject into the Vastus Lateralis muscle which is at its nearest to the surface in the outer middle third of the thigh . ( look at diagrams on Google )

Above are obtainable from —

medisave.co.uk

To inject sub-cutaneously you will need

A long 1 1/2 inch x 21G withdrawing needle to withdraw the B12 out of the ampoule into the syringe

To inject, either a 1/2 inch x30G needle or

A 6mm injecting needle ( from amazon.uk ) Antonmove stainless steel pipe .

a 2ml syringe

You can inject the front of your thighs , or in the tummy fat .

Obtainable from medisave.co.uk ( except the 6mm needles)

I am sorry you have pernicious anaemia.

I was diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia some years ago but instead of quarterly B12 injections I now have a monthly one, My GP gives me a B12 injection every month.

My Mother also had P.A. but after several years a GP told her she needed no more injections. We thought that was 'good' but it was awful as Mother developed stomach cancer and died. So I will definitely not stop my B12 injections.

Hi SHARPY,

Welcome here, lots of organisations are trying to educate doctors about this insidious disease. Wedgewood knows their stuff and lots of us are extremely grateful to them.

I am sorry to read of your spinal fusion. I hope you are not in too much pain. A few of us take Lion’s mane but what works for one does not for another.

Keep a diary of your symptoms to note progress.

Best wishes
