Hi guys,
Diagonised low b12 levels of 150. I’m on injections now. I was just wondering what cofactors should I be aware of? Also what else should I be taking? Folate levels are 5.4 any help appreciated!
Thank you!

Hi Shannonf247
It is also important that your Folate level is monitored as this is essential to process the B12.
There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance.
Symptoms of a folate deficiency can include:
symptoms related to anaemia
reduced sense of taste
diarrhoea
numbness and tingling in the feet and hands
muscle weakness
depression
As you have just started loading doses, Initially, replacing B12 will lead to a huge increase in the production of blood cells and platelets (which occurs in the bone marrow) and can lead to rapid depletion of folate and iron stores; this can then limit the expected recovery of Haemoglobin.
Both iron and folate may be needed so please have these levels checked by your doctor.
Hi!
As lots of things are needed in conjunction with the B12, most people find a broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement plus extra folate, potassium, magnesium and iron are helpful.
Everyone is different and the levels you need of each are dependant on your frequency of injections and how well your body absorbs and processes everything so it's best to listen to your body.
It's a good idea to Google each one so you know the sources of them that you might like and be aware of the symptoms of deficiency and excess of each so you can recognise them and make adjustments to keep yourself as well as possible.
