They should also have prescribed you some folate, it's very low & an essential cofactor for the B12 injections.

Sorry forgot to mention was put on 5mg folic acid no use so doctor upped it to 3x5mg 15mg daily but still no luck with it. Oh thanks for ur reply😀😀

Folic acid tablets are about £1 a pot,. Start taking those now.

As you've managed to get your dr onside, I think printing off the NICE guidelines on treating the symptoms of B12 deficiency and taking them along to the GP might help. I'd say something like, a friend gave me this to read, I didn't know there were guidelines about the condition. What do you think ?

"For people with neurological involvement

Seek urgent specialist advice from a haematologist.

Ideally, management should be guided by a specialist, but if specialist advice is not immediately available, consider the following:

Initially administer hydroxocobalamin 1 mg intramuscularly on alternate days until there is no further improvement, then administer hydroxocobalamin 1 mg intramuscularly every 2 months."

Good luck - my referral to a haematologist was "accidentally cancelled" and my second one refused because "it's not something we deal with", and rarely do I hear of people getting alternate day injections. I've just written to PALS in my first step towards making a formal complaint about the treatment of myself and others with B12 deficiency.

I have neuro logical involvement , had injections 3xweek for 2 weeks 3 weeks ago, very slight improvement, GP referred to Haematologist , who said no, go to neurologist. I gave NICE guidelines to GP he siad alternate day injections for 2 weeks ,but will have to wait for a few weeks to arrange time for them! I will join you in complaining to PALS if this happens.

I had grandmother, father and have sister with B12 deficiency. in 2003 i was diagnosed with bad symptoms of B12 deficiency. injections stopped after 1yr. Only now being taken as a possibility again.
