Many of us here suffer from brain fog. Many also consume probiotics. Could the former be caused by the latter?

It’s a small scale study, but it does show quite a link between probiotics and brain fog, as well as SIBO.

Hi fbirder. If gut biome is so delicately balanced, then posits the question - can we ourselves cause imbalance by getting too much of a good thing. No idea. So hmm...
I am a gut biome dunce so will read this with interest tomorrow, when I have a bit more brain.
Yes to the probiotics and brain fog too, so food for thought indeed!
Thanks for posting.

So something else thought to be true bites the dust.
From my own experience, I had the bloating etc while I wasn't taking probiotics (I've only taken them occasionally and short term). While taking Symprove my migraine worsened - if it were possible for it to be any worse! I was looking at a gut-brain connection, in desperation) and I had to stop. But afterwards my gut was improved, with much less bloating. Brain fog only improved with regular doses of a herbal anti inflammatory (contains turmeric).
That's very interesting! I regularly take probiotics. I've been a real sugar addict for years and decided it was time to do something about it, so for the last 3 months have gone 'cold turkey'. It was hard, and I feel amazing but a real difference has been that I've increased the time between my B12 jabs, as the usual fogginess hasn't happened. I realise there could be any number of reasons for this, but this article is thought provoking....
Thankyou for the share!
I can only say that the probiotic Symprove cured my bloating ,nausea and stomach cramps that had when I was diagnosed with P.A. Always make sure that I take a probiotic like raw organic sauerkraut every day . I haven’t had the gut problems since then . So I for one swear by probiotics . BUT , we are all different , so who knows ?
Like wedgewood all my long term digestive symptoms improved amazingly when I began taking daily spoonfuls of sauerkraut.
It is my understanding that any probiotic needs to be introduced gradually to help reduce symptoms of 'die back', which include bloating, gas and brain fog. This link helps explain:
Very interesting. I'm glad I read all the way down because I 'take' kefir, and eat a square or two of dark chocolate daily. I was starting to get worried until I read "Good food sources of probiotics include yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir and dark chocolate, which are generally safe because of the small amounts of bacteria present". I don't think I get bloated (what is the difference between blasting and a slightly big tummy?) but do get a bit of brain fog but not to the extent of the people in the trial.
Well, it’s been a few weeks with no Bio-Kult or Actimel and I’m feeling about the same, maybe slightly better. But I’ll be keeping off them...
I just heard on IBS and SIBO summit .com ( free viewing ending in a few hours) Dr Satish Rao saying that he treats thousands of patients and has found from his experience that if one has SIBO / IBS / SIFO, that taking probiotics actually worsens these conditions because the probiotics are meant to go to the colon but stop at the Small Intestine and don’t travel down any further. They settle down causing or worsening SIBO.
Wow.
