Hi. Can anyone advise on these results? I’ve tried looking up on google to try and work out what’s going on. My b12 is so high, my folate is high, my iron is high but my ferritin is on the low side.....it’s very confusing.

do you supplement at all?

assuming that you don't supplement it may just be that these are where your levels need to be for you even though they look like they are a bit over the top of the 'normal' range.

liver and kidney problems can lead to high B12 levels - but the creatinine and urea above are in range which indicates that kidney function isn't an issue.

whilst ferritin is quite a good measure of iron it doesn't tell the whole story and you need to look at a full range of iron measures to get a complete picture

Hi. I do supplement. I take a multivitamin but the iron level in the vitamin isn’t high. Around 80% of my recommended daily amount. I am trying to work out why my ferritin is on the lower side, yet my iron is high. I do have an enlarged liver and antibodies for PBC but the hospital won’t diagnose me as my liver function remains good. I also have thyroid disease. I’m just sick of feeling rubbish all the time and since having to diagnose myself with thyroid (private bloods) after constantly being fobbed off by doctors, I now try and gather as much information as I can before seeing my Gp so I know what I’m talking about. Thank you for your response. X

hi there,

im not medically trained but your caerulpasmin at .2 is bottom of range.

it is a indirect measure of copper, meaning like 90% of copper is carried by it. please google copper's effect on iron. in short what you will find is that copper is necessary for iron to catalze /function properly.

rda is 900mcg daily. deficiency treatment is 2 mg copper daily.

additionally your alkaline phosphatase is not optimal. please look up optimal alaline phosphatase and causes for being suboptimal. in short what you will find is that optimal is 70. and causes are lack of zinc.

definitely research for yourself but my suggestion is 15 mg zinc/1 mg copper capsule taken 2X daily, on empty stomach if possible, for 60 days and then get these tests redone.

best of luck and health

Hi.

I am strugling with similar issue. High iron and extremely low ferritin.

What you should maybe check is the iron saturation. It apparently should be around 25-35%, yours is at 52%.

Have a read also about the MTHFR mutation. It can cause b12 and folate overload, but in realily the body is unable to break those vitamins into active/usable forms.

And personally I would use supplememts without iron. You have more than enough of iron in bloodstream, but your body is unable to process it into ferritin. This may also be mthrf mutation problem.
