Hi can somebody point me in the direction to purchase some Methylcobalamin
Thanks
Most people in the UK will inject hydroxocobalamin, for several reasons.
It is just as effective as methylcobalamin for almost everybody.
It is easier to source than methylcobalamin.
It is more stable than methylcobalamin.
It is cheaper than methylcobalamin.
Why do you want methylcobalamin instead of hydroxocobalamin?
Because it is natural & not synthetic, but if the other one is just as good need a good site to order from thanks
yes, there is a lot of hype on a lot of sites about methyl being more natural but all the forms of B12 used in vitamin supplements etc are artificial - 'grown' in vats of bacteria.
The claim that methyl is more natural seems to come from the fact that it is oe of the two forms of B12 used at the cell level (the other is adenosyl - which is even less stable than methyl) but the reality is that the way the body absorbs B12 the methyl element is going to be removed and replaced by something else before it gets back into your cell which is where it will be re-combined with methyl.
People do vary very much in relation to which types of cobalamin suit them best - I actually use all 4 types of supplemental B12 because different ones work for me on different symptoms - but I don't use methyl and adenosyl in injectable form.
A good site to order from is a German online pharmacy ( I assume that you know that you can only get the ampoules with a prescription in the UK? The pharmacy I use is versandapo.de English (yes type all of that in ) I use the 1ml X1mg costing €52.90 for 100,or multiples of 10 at €7.99 each .Needles , syringes and swabs from Medisave .uk
I tried methylcobalamin, but found Hydroxocobalamin to be equally effective.
Hi Goldcreast,
You can get both from here ( a German pharmacy), whichever u decide on it’s not expensive.
I get my needles and syringes from medisave.co.uk, and the ampoule snapper and sharpes box were cheapest on amazon.
Good luck
Abi
On this subject.... is a 1,000 mcg shot an agreeable amount to begin with, say, once a week? Or should I be 'loading' a bit more frequently until symptoms start to reduce?
Should I wait and see what my folate level is first (about 9 days before I get NHS results back)?
Generally you have two weeks of loadings shots which is a shot every other day for two weeks, then it moves to a regular shot every few months. The nhs do these every 3 months, and rarely deviate from this even when patients need it, but generally if you go to a private gp they will recommend a shot every two months. Although some people seem to need one monthly and I have read of severe cases who need them weekly. I think its a case of seeing how you go and asking for them more regularly if you need it. (I self inject so have completed my loading shots and am now starting with the 2 month approach and seeing how I go...)
