Hi all i am new here but a regular on tuk, i have recently been told by my gp that i am bordering on anaemic and he said i need to supplement, i am taking blueiron liquid but after taking it for around 12 days i come out on my face with a red itchy rash and body itch,i have not taken or used anything different so i can only put it down to tbe iron.

Has anyone else had a reaction to this- my mum said when i was smaller i could not tolerate iron formulas it would make me itch.

Sorry if this thread should be directed elsewhere.

Thankyou guys.😊

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the itchy rash.

Have you talked to your GP about the rash? What type of supplement did he suggest? A pharmacist might be able to advise.

Hi there doc did recommend the normal prescription ones ferrous fumerate but these have given me terrible sickness and cramps in the past so i git my own from boots by blueiron its relatively new in uk i think costing £16. It has bluberries to help with taste. I have not contacted gp as docs know very little about nutrition and supplements and mine tend to be a waste of time- i have been advised by pharmacist to discontinue for 14 days to see if rash settles.😊

I would follow the advice from the pharamacist.

Although this forum has anaemia in the title it's actually about a condition that causes B12 deficiency - and the symptoms of B12 deficiency include a particular type of anaemia in which your red blood cells are larger and rounder than normal.

You obviously have an iron based anaemia from what you have said which means that your red blood cells are smaller than they should be.

Is your thyroid problem auto-immune - eg hashimotos - if so there is a good chance that you are starting to develop some form of gastritis (and PA is due to an auto-immune gastritis). Generally this shows up first as iron deficiency but then goes on to affect other vitamins and minerals.

Has your GP done anything about identifying the cause of your anaemia - eg testing for h pylori, coeliacs ...

This is an article on thyrogastric syndrome which might be relevant.

Thankyou for your kind advice and yes i do have celiac disease and follow a strict diet and soya free and i also have hashimotos aswell, unfortunatley my gps are useless and it took them ages to admit i had a iron problem but sorting this is next to my other problems with my thyroid

Thankyou for taking tge time to explain gambit62.😊
