Hi everyone, I've been having neurological symptoms for 8 months now. It all started with numb patches all over my body (back, hands, hips) small ones, that stll haven't gone away. The past 3 weeks i've been having weakness in my right arm and leg and balance issues. I'm severely low in vitamin D, but they said my B12 is normal. Is it true that they can get this wrong? I've seen so many doctors including a neurologist and none of them can explain my symptoms. Could it be B12?

Hi Cordelia22 are you in the U.K?
Do you know what your serum B12, Folate and Iron test results are together with their ranges <from - to>?
Some of the symptoms you describe may well be due to your Vitamin D deficiency. Are you being treated for that? Improvement often takes several months.
I'm not a medically trained person but there are others on here who will be able to give you good advice if you can post the details.
I wish you well and bid you goodnight.
I have no idea!
I thought so too, but it doesn't explain the numbness I'm on 20,000 iu everyday for 10 days but I'm worried that won't be enough, I'll call my doctor for the exact results soon
my b12 was 551ng/l - range is 200-770g/l could this still be causing my symptoms? my folate is 7.8ug/l range is 3.90-26.80ug/l
Both your B12 and Folate look to be OK which means the B12 you are supplementing is being absorbed and although fairly high in the range it is not the "cause" of your symptoms.
You cannot "overdose" on B12 as any excess is excreted via your urine so please don't worry about it.
You can help your folate level either by eating lots of green vegetables, sprouts, broccoli, spinach, peas, beans etc, checking out your breakfast cereals, as many now are fortified with folic acid, or buying it cheaply over the counter at any chemist or supermarket Have a word with the pharmacist.
I do hope you begin to feel better soon but I'm still inclined to think it's more to do with the Vitamin D deficiency as that can take months to improve.
I wish you well
Hi,
"I'm on 20,000 iu everyday"
Are you on oral tablets or injections?
Is your Vitamin D deficiency being treated?
It's helpful to know which country you are in as patterns of B12 treatment can vary from country to country.
I have written some very detailed replies in recent weeks. Might be worth searching for them on the forum.

I'm in the UK and I'm taking 20,000 iu for vitamin D. I just want to get better
every single doctor that I've seen has said that numb patches can't be caused by anything so I'm so confused!!
I have seen some people with a B12 deficiency say that the numbness started in their back! There's no other explanation
Short answer is yes it could.
Do have a look at this:
My numbness started in my face
Depends on how low your B12 is.
Sometimes B12 can be ‘within range’, but on the low end and that could mean you’ll have symptoms of low B12 and you need your B12 to be in the higher range, which means you do need B12.
If you post your results here for B12 and the range which it should be in you’ll get better answers.
Also depends how low your Vit D is as you can take 2x 20,000 per week if it’s very low or on the low side and then decrease to 1x 20,000.
It can take few weeks before you notice improvement in Vit D symptoms and B12 can take a bit more longer.
One indication you’d Vit D is low is pain in your body.(usually bone pain.
Try the Vit D and if things don’t improve you can then add B12 and see if there’s improvements.
One thing at a time is best but it’s important to post your levels or even full blood results with ranges if you’ve had a full blood test.

Have you been taking supplements? B6 toxicity can also cause those symptoms....
