Normally the ‘loading dose’ involves having 6 1mg injections over 2 weeks .Then if you have improvements ,

Sorry , accidentally sent reply before I had finished ! If you have improvements after the NHS usual “loading dose “ (6 injections over 2 weeks) , you receive one injection every 3 months . For some people this is sufficient . For others not ,if their symptoms start to return before 3 months . If you have neurological symptoms , an injection every other day should be given until the symptoms no longer improve . Thereafter the NHS give one injection every two months .

We PA patients find it difficult to get the number of injections we need and are forced to self-inject. . You find out for yourself how often you need to inject to keep well . I need to inject every week . I hear of people who need to inject daily . No matter how often you inject there is no danger of over- injecting. B12 is water soluble and non -toxic . ( there are scientific documents on this ) Remember that you also need to make sure that you have a good intake of vitamin B9 ( folate in leafy green vegs or folic acid in tablet form ) This vitamin works synergistically with B12 . Very important to remember this .

So you need to experiment and find out what suits you. I wish you all the best .

Hidden I'd keep a journal of symptoms and then you will soon see a pattern emerge... my symptoms return when I'm low.

At present I'm needing every second or third day. I thought after 9 months I'd be able go to weekly but all my symptoms rushed back so, I'm back to every second day to build up my stores again. I really don't know where that B12 goes!

I'm quite interested in how you learnt to inject in your arm. Do you do this injection yourself? If so, how do you manage it?

Thank you. I did it with the help of my husband, I put the needle in my arm and I got my husband to slowly inject the b12. As I was able to see the muscle there I thought it was a safe place. Lol I’ll maybe try the thigh today but concerned I’ll get it wrong

Thanks for replying! I find the thigh pretty straightforward but I'd be happy to give them a break when I have such a high frequency demand.

I have found that too far over to the outer side of the thigh is where I find a vein so I tend to inject the upper outer quadrant - if you are sitting on a hard chair the thigh will squish out a bit so measure half way up and that's the spot. For me anyway. I'm 63 yrs old and not skinny but not overly heavy, either.

Well done for achieving an arm IM first off. You are a genius!
