Regaine hair foam for hair loss due to b12 deficiency?

Hi all..... I've posted a few times about my hair loss but I have to say I have noticed alot more has fallen out in the last two weeks. Keep finding it on my pillow in the morning, when I brush my hair....put in a ponytail or shower. I am on my 5th week of every other day b12 injections.....My question is has anyone who is having similar symptoms ever tried using Regaine hair foam? I'm curious because I hear it's good for woman who are generally balding but is it any good for us? I mean will it just grow and fall out again because the root if the problem is obviously b12 deficiency or will the foam aid re-growth? Thanks for any replies, just getting a bit desperate now. I have accepted that my hair isn't what it used to be but I wish to god it would stop falling out.

Ok well that's positive...and you're on less injections than myself so hopefully mine will grow back like yours. Yea I've asked a few times about hair, just i had very thick hair all down my back about 8 months ago...now it's so so thin. Hard you accept....so I think I will try this Regaine and see if it helps at all. Hopefully someone who has had the same idea as me will have some light to shed on the matter. All the best ☺

Over 4500 posts about Hairloss on Thyroid UK and 272 on this Forum in the above link. So hopefully you will find some helpful information.

Losing hair is a very common symptom with Low Thyroid so am wondering if you have been tested. Low B12 also accompanies Low Thyroid - along with VitD and Ferritin.

Yes, as Marz says, check iron levels too. Good luck with the product. It is terrible losing hair.

Thanks for the replies. I've had all of them tests done.... I was low in ferritin and vit d so I have been supplementing them for a few months now. My thyroid came back as OK, however I may get it re checked as was my iron. I've got an appointment this week with the doc. Does anyone know about Regaine and if it has helped them? I'll be bald by the time I wait for my doctor to help so I am trying to think outside the box as well as taking the cofactors and b12. Thanks ☺

Sorry not able to help with Regaine. Do obtain copies of your blood tests with ranges so you can post with more info.

Do you know what was tested that was declared OK for your thyroid ? Often only the TSH is tested which tells you very little. You need the FT4 & FT3 tested along with thyroid anti-bodies TPO & Tg. You need the full story. Difficult to have the correct testing so prepare yourself by reading the link below ....

Oh fantastic thank you very much I will read that and tackle to doctor on Monday. My latest results were taken about 6 months ago.

My result was:

15.7 (Range 12.22)

1.44 (range 0.3 -4.2)

That's was the thyroid test i was given when I asked for my results. Does this mean anything? I will post all my new results when I get them done.

Thank you very much that was really helpful what you told me

☺☺

there are lots of things that will cause hair loss - which includes thyroid - the results above are out of range and would imply that there is probably a thyroid problem going on. Do you have any more recent results for thyroid.

As Marz says above

For advice on thyroid would suggest that you post on the TUK forum

Ok, I'm going to the doctor on Monday. Would you be able to tell me specifically what is out of range with my results so I can say? As the doc keep telling new everything is in range. Is there anything specifilcally i should be asking for? This would make so much sense if I had a thyroid problem. I looked up some of the stuff Marz said and I match so many of the symptoms it makes more sense then pernicious anaemia. Thank you all so much

Your first result would be the FT4 which is in range as is the second result which is the TSH. The FT3 result is important as that is the ACTIVE hormone needed in every cell of your body - but sadly rarely tested on the NHS. Also you need the anti-bodies TPO & Tg tested to rule out Hashimotos. The most common thyroid condition. Are you able to have all the tests done at home privately ? - if so then click onto - About Testing - in the link I gave you before 😊

When you have your results post them on the THYROID UK Forum here on HU. Click onto the green Reply button below this post to ensure I receive an alert if you wish to reply.

How are you treating the low Ferritin and VitD ? How much are you taking ? ..... So have Folate - Ferritin and Vit D re-tested as they need to be monitored. Are you taking Vit C with the iron to aid absorption also Folic Acid or Folate to accompany B12 - they work together in the body.

Brilliant thank you so much. I'll post what happens at the doctors and any results I get up here. ☺ you've been a great help....I looked up low functioning thyroid and I have so many of the symptoms and it almost makes more sense that I have that than PA...so it's another route to investigate.

Post your Thyroid results on the Thyroid UK Forum if possible. Have you made notes for your Doc about the tests needed ?

Just back from the doctor. She is going to refer me to an endocrinologist, but I wont get an appointment for about 8 weeks so we are going to go private. She says she wasn't allowed to do a full thyroid panel because my t4 was in the "normal" range. She says the specialist will do that test for me. She also said my 2nd MMA test came back as 120 which she says is normal therefore I don't need y more b12. And my b12 was 1000 so therefore OK. She wouldn't listen to when I said I had symptoms and are suppose to new treated everywhere day until no further improvement. She has however sebt me for more bloodiest though they are not the ones I wanted. She is retesting the basically blood test. So quite frustrating.....she was nice to me but not helpful really....I hope the specialist will do better.

Oh BTW I forgot to say I am taking vit D High strength 25 micro grams I think ( my vit D was 75 and doc won't retest as she said that was normal) I was previously taking gentle iron for ferritin now I am on ferrous sulfate as think it was not strong enough

Thanks Magda

Most Endos specialise in diabetes and know so little about thyroid. You would be far better off joining Thyroid UK and following the advice there. Read some of the posts and see how difficult it is to get diagnosis/treatment. Are you able to have Private tests done at home as mentioned above.

thyroiduk.org

Click onto About Testing. Have you researched the Private Endo ? Is he/she thyroid friendly ? Thyroid UK have a list if Thyroid friendly Docs/Endos. Just don't want you to waste your money.

A friend of mine bought some intending to use it, but when she read the instructions it said it wasn't suitable if you were over a certain age (65 I think?). So she just took it back to the shop for a refund. I don't think it said the age restriction on the outside of the pack, which is ridiculous!

mdoh1918 profile image
mdoh1918 in reply toMariLiz

Oh ok....I saw the age restrictions too but I'm only 23 so didn't apply to me. I've started using it to see if it helps at all....it might not but I'm giving it a go ☺

MariLiz profile image
MariLiz in reply tomdoh1918

That's fine! I only mentioned the age restriction because I didn't know how old you might be. I hope it works for you.

mdoh1918 profile image
mdoh1918 in reply toMariLiz

Oh I know that's OK ☺ I thought maybe I should have mentioned my age to begin with anyway...it's so young to be losing so much hair...so I will give it a go and if I see any progress I'll let everyone know. Though to be honest I doubt it will help much as I need to get to the root of the problem...but it gives me hope 😊 but thank you for your reply ...any help is welcome
