Low Ferritin in 14 year old son

Hi

Is it okay to give my 14 year old son Solgar Gentle Iron 25mg?

He's on Spatone right now but I know that won't be doing much.

He was at the very lowest point on the range for his ferritin. Doctor said it didn't matter!

Thanks very much

What makes you think that Spatone won't be doing much? The 5 mg of iron in one sachet, combined with a healthy diet, should provide plenty of iron.

Too much iron can be as harmful as too little. For a child 25 mg of iron might be too much.

I would go back to the doctor, and ask their advice. Or see a pharmacist who may be able to advise you.

Spatone has always worked really well for me, however low my ferritin. Ferritin levels come back up gradually.

Thanks for replying. Okay, I will keep with the Spatone. His level was so low (and his hair has thinned, he is tired when training) that I thought it better to boost it with Solgar Gentle Iron and then maintain. I will keep going with it and then get his blood tests done again.
