Hi all,
I had blood when I went to the toilet today which has never happened before. My GP told me that it could not be linked to my anaemia and that he thinks it is just my IBS playing up.
Has anyone been in a similar position before?
Thank you
Hi all,

Thank you
Yes ah1234 58 years ago when I had a perforated peptic ulcer and "lost blood from both ends" but that's the extreme scenario and you'd know if you had a stomach ulcer from the agonising pain.
Are you a bit constipated as sometimes this can cause an "anal fissure" which can cause bleeding?
I am not medically trained but there are others on here who will be able to give you good advice
No, it's the opposite to constipation....
I am currently doing the FODMAP diet as it has been an issue for about 6 years now but it doesn't seem to have helped in any way.
I don't think of myself as having IBS but I have had some periods of diarrhoea recently - which included noticing a small amount of blood noticed on toilet tissue rather than the actual stool itself. it wasn't repeated and I've assumed that it was down to having irritated my bottom by wiping it after so many visits in a short period of time. I am not saying that this is necessarily what happened to you - particularly if the blood was definitely in the stool sample.
If I notice it recurring regularly then I would definitely be wanting to follow up with the GP
I read that any blood in faeces was a good reason to go to GP. Did GP exclude other reasons besides IBS for the bleeding?
Nope. I've lost a considerable amount of weight recently and I had a sharp pain in my side but all he did is send me off with a stool sample kit.
Looks like your GP has decided to investigate the problem and the stool sample results should tell him if there is any internal bleeding.
