Anyone else been told their heart is slow?

Had my pre-op for rotator cuff injury and given an ECG. Told I am fine except for "sinus bradycardia" - a slow heart. As far as I know, the op is still going ahead. Anyone else got this or know the likely cause? Is this another B12 thing I didn't know about?

Hi Cherylclaire. Yes, irregular, fast, or slow heartbeat (arrhythmia) can be one of the symptoms of B12 deficency.

It can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism - often suffered by B12 deficients.

And while your here - think we've done this before - but just in case not...are you aware that people with B12 dice t should not have nitrous oxide when having an anaesthetic - it deactivates all B12 😖.

Here's a link to a recent post about it:

Good luck with the surgery, hope all goes well. Let us know how you get on 👍

Awaiting a date right now, Foggyme, and putting my impatience down to B12 def. as it's hardly an urgent priority I know, and I'm well aware of the NHS crisis. Trouble is, I'm now on 1/2 pay and panic setting in. Have told everyone I spoke to at pre-op about nitrous oxide and B12 def. and written it down a lot of times on medical history form- it still surprises me how many medical people know so little about B12, but at least they asked questions and did not pretend- or worse, laugh at me as if I'm stupid. Hate that so much.

While I've got you, can you tell me something? I'm not sure how you can go about this but is it possible to find updates on forum people ? There was a man who posted just before Christmas I think, about going for a serious op.- old-fashioned camera guy, I think he called himself (?) I don't know how to retrieve posts, but I've been thinking about him and hoping he's okay.

Cherylclaire,

Thyroid levels may have been checked as part of the pre-op check. Ask what the levels are when you go for your op. I hope it goes well by the way :)

Yes, it was that man. I remembered that he was hoping for a January date, and he was playing on my mind a bit. Thanks for that, Clutter, will reply to him and see what happens.

Can't remember thyroid being part of my pre-op blood testing, but I will ask.
