Loading injections?

My doc has put me on every one Evety 3 months of ink ections which I start next week but I have so many symptoms. I've read there should be "loading injections" first but he hasn't said anything about that and is just going to give me the one every 3 months. Should I supplement myself with b12 tabs or go back To docs?

What is your diagnosis Emmy1991 ?

Ideally you should be receiving more frequent injections as the BNF guidelines say below of treatment with Hydroxocobalamin:-

By intramuscular injection, pernicious anaemia and other macrocytic anaemias without neurological involvement, initially 1 mg 3 times a week for 2 weeks then 1 mg every 3 months

Pernicious anaemia and other macrocytic anaemias with neurological involvement, initially 1 mg on alternate days until no further improvement, then 1 mg every 2 months.

If you have P.A. supplements will do you no good

Probably best to go back to your doctor - especially if you have P.A. - and ask him to treat you in accordance with the BNF Guidelines (above) and also to check your Folate level as this needs to be good whilst you are having the injections.

If you have B12 Deficiency supplementing might help as long as you don't have an absorption problem or other illness or are taking medications which prevent you getting B12 via your diet.

I'm not a medically trained person but there are others on here who will be able to give you good advice.

I wish you well and success with your doctor.

Hi Emmy1991. I've copied and pasted a reply I left yesterday on your previous post (in italics) 'cause I don't think you've seen it yet.

Just to add...your B12 level is very low so I don't think supplements will make any significant difference as the dose is far to small for, your need and absorption may be a problem...you need loading doses...and the neurological regime...as below...

Just make sure you get the 6 x loading doses (1mg every other day) first - the loading doses are designed to get low levels up as quickly as possible - and your's are low 😖.

Also - just be aware that if you have neurological symptoms then you need injections every other day until no further improvement, then every eight weeks. (Rather than the 3 monthly currently suggested). Just saying 'cause not many GP's are aware of this regime and I think you may have said before that you have neurological symptoms - but apologies if I'm wrong - it's late 💤💤.

Just ask if you need pointing towards evidence for the neuro regime - sorry, have to trot...brain's flagging 😖😱😬

Hope you feel much better soon....plenty of lovely B12 should do the trick 😀.

So...really think you should go back to,your GP (take evidence from the pinned posts) and ask for both loading doses and the neurological regime.

Good luck 👍

Sorry I probably did. It's just a lot to take in at the moment for me.

I'm feeling so nausea, my appetites still whack, still feeling full, memory's terrible can't remember anything at the moment Its so bad :/ shooting pains which I don't get every single day but are worse when stressed and full of anxiety, I don't get numbness or tingling really. My tempers so short. My feet sometimes swell and get all sweaty, I sweat at night, Feel like I'm falling apart. Even the doc said I looked tired. I just think every 3 months is to long got my injections at the moment. Still trying to take in, in how this all works. Just didn't know a vit D could make you feel so darn unwell.

megaloblastic Anemia. He never gave me a diagnoses as such as a b12/folate D but because my MCV is high (I don't know how high exactly) he wouldn't give me a print off) I've researched it to that lol! I also thought a blood test for 6 months was far to long to check my levels as I read they check them not long after.

Sorry just needed to rant. Gonna phone up now and make appointment.
