Coffee : I have noticed that if I drink... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Coffee
Caffeine is a "methyl contributor" in the metabolic process. It stimulates the DNA to produce molecules that support energy. This is why it wakes one up.
A similar process occurs when B12 supports the production of methionine from homocysteine. Methionine gets converted into a molecule that contributes methyl molecules to DNA processes.
For me, caffeine is one of my daily staples. Too much caffeine however can contribute to things like tinnitus.
The methylation of the DNA produces chemical that also support nerve maintenance and repair. The tingling sensation is probably the repair of damaged nerves. How long have you been deficient in either folic acid or B12?
Do you get a similar symptom from B12 supplements?
Pain is one of the counterintuitive symptoms that occurs when one gets B12 after being deficient. The repair of the nerve provides a stronger signal to the brain which takes a couple of days to recalibrate to the stronger signal.
I found out I was b12 deficient Aug 2014 ..I use to tingle after taking multi vits quite strongly so I stopped taking them.. I'v just started taking Holland n barret b-complex vit d for body cracks which appear to get worse winter time. And cod liver and now flaxseed. ..iv never been go folate def that I know of. The tingling comes and goes I find it gets stimulated after I eat or drink coffee esp. Sorry I didn't quite get everything you said ..so does it not matter if I drink coffee or does it help repair nerves or just a side effect. ..I find my tingling also gets worse amoung other symptoms the closure I get to my 8wkly jab.
Hi Blondie2505.
First - sorry, but to the best of my knowledge, coffee will not help repair nerves. Unfortunately 😀
Second - check the amounts of B6 in your B complex (high levels of B6 can cause peripheral neuropathy - I don't take anything that is marked as containing over 100% RDA.
It you also take a multivitamin, you will get even more B6 from that - so probably get far too much.
Coffee - I get bloating from coffe, headache if I drink too much. Don't notice any impact on pins and needles. I drink it cause I love it. But I have heard healthy non-deficient people say that they feel better when they give it up. Give it a try (or not)....be interesting to see if it makes any difference.
If you find a food or drink that you think affects you, tyou could exclude it for a couple of weeks and then re-introduce to see if there's any affect. And maybe try to keep a food diary so you can identify any culprits? Others here much more knowledgable about food/diet issues so perhaps will leave a comment.
And many people report that symptoms (including pins and needles) begin to re-appear when an injection is becoming due. Is your GP one of those who would consider a trial of more frequent jabs to see if this would help?
Hope you find someone that works 👍

Do you have a source for this?
Most pharmacologists seem to think that it works as an adenosine receptor antagonist. I'm sure they'd be interested to learn that they're wrong.
