Sharps Boxes

I've been given a piece of information that I thought it very important too share with everyone. If you have a full sharps box I'd make use of the Doc's or pharmancy disposal while you can as in the not too distant future sharps boxes will have too be collected as clinical waste and put out on your doorstep on a certain day and await collection.

This is going too happen all accross the country! Everyone who I have spoken too about this are shocked and hate the idea for many different reasons.

When I know more I'll keep you all updated on this.

Many thanks for this...I have small boxes so would need frequent collection or larger boxes.

I already have my sharps boxes replaced by the local council. I've not found it even the slightest hassle. I just ring them up, they tell me the day for pickup and I leave my full box outside that morning. Sometime during the day the full box goes and a new one arrives.

A lot easier than having to go down to the surgery. I can't see what the problem is.

my surgery just called a number, gave them my address and mobile number, and they text to say they were collecting it on such a day from 7.30 am and just leave it on the doorstep. it was great as I didn't have to travel anywhere, easy peasy! :)

Hi Penni. I have great trouble disposing of full sharps boxes (no chemist around here will take them) and would love it if I could ring the council to come and get them 😀.

This is, I understand, quite a common service in many areas, in particular for diabetics.

If you could say a little about why you hate the idea and find it shocking, perhaps we could try and put your mind at rest 😀.

Over the years I've had lots of issues with the children where I live, this includes having my house broken into and having my b12 ampules stolen. My house is right next too an area where children play and the idea of leaving a bright yellow box (even sealed) on the door step doesn't seem like a good idea too me. Due too my health I have a special card from the council for help with my waste and recycling I can't get that collected when it should be, let alone a box of used needles. It also worries me that if the box is seen then people will know that there are sharps in my house. It took me a very long time too get over my last break in and almost 6 years later I'm still not completely over it.

Ah ha...I then I can understand your concerns Penni.

Have you tried talking to the council department concerned. Perhaps if they understood your concerns and the very real issues you have, they could make special arrangements for you.

Perhaps a knock and collect service? Worth a try 😀.

Hope you manage to get something sorted.

I get more sense out of my cat than I do my local council. I'm still waiting for a phone call from them that I was promised by 5th October. I can't even get my recycling collected on the correct day. If they can't collect large bright orange boxes on the correct day and they only contain paper, card and empty pop cans I have very little faith over a box of needles

Sadly, I can't get mine collected or taken in unless I get a GP service, and I'm not telling them I si... I also wouldn't want dim people coming to the assumption I was a drug addict.... I know that sounds silly, but again leaving it outside is not very private... Maybe you could put it by your front door in a sort of peddle bin hidden... Big hugs... Some areas are so bad now we have to think about that x

A friend of mine came up with a great idea re: collection of sharps boxes. Arrange a drop off point at a local safe building such as a community centre and then get them all collected from there.
