The GP visit.

I'm struggling , had b12 shot 2 weeks ago but been shattered for nearly 4 weeks now. After much advice from this sight I have educated myself. Today was my follow up to get results of thyroid , serum protein and Ige. Tests. Looking for other reasons for severe fatigue. My chest is so bad it took over priority. I'm on a 5 day blast of prednisalone steroids. ( I'v been here many many times before) . Hay ho, thyroid fine. Something wrong with serum protein ? Just tells us something is going wrong. I am being referd to the Haematologist. My husband was with me and backed me up. But thought I should not bring out the printed guidelines I took along. I mentioned I don't think I had a loading dose . He is seeing me again next week because of my chest. THis Gp is a friend so I said I would prefer if we could sort it out but I would go to the blood team if I must. , he said its best because he would be happy to go with their report.

Now I wonder how long this will take and if the specialist I see is on board with PA. Worrying because the patients on this forum have said they got dismissed or poor response . I can see the self treating on the horizon . To help myself I'v lowered my alcohol intake , I'm on daily multi Vitamins plus and liquid iron plus chewing raw spinich . Awaiting sublingual Methy form of b12 to get a boost. But as the malabsorption I don't suppose I'm getting much orally.

You mention your Thyroid is fine - I am wondering what you mean by fine. Docs are not up to speed with testing and diagnosing thyroid - rather like the B12/PA issues. Do you have copies of your results with ranges ? You are legally entitled to have all copies of your blood tests so you can monitor your progress.

It is well known that Low Thyroid can cause chest issues. In fact Thyroid hormones are needed in every one of the trillions and trillions of cells in the body - cells of the brain - the heart - the liver - the lungs - the skin and so on. So when T3 is low there is not enough to go around and things begin to go wrong.

These are the tests that should have been done - TSH - FT4 - FT3 and the anti-bodies Anti-TPO and Anti-Tg. Your TSH should be around 2 - The FT4 in the upper part of the range and the FT3 too. If your GP did not do all these tests that he cannot say your thyroid is fine.

The TSH is a Pituitary hormone and tells the Thyroid to secrete T4 which is a storage hormone. It needs to convert into the ACTIVE hormone T3. So all these details are important for the complete picture.
