Have you been tested or diagnosed with PA/B12 deficiency Sally?

You probably already know that anxiety, along with other factors, such as extreme fatigue, memory loss, anaemia, etc. is often a strong sign of B12 deficiency. Reading through your posts, I also see that you have recently had a baby. Pregnancy and breast feeding make huge demands on B12 and may have left you depleted, anaemic and with post natal depression.

Here are some links you may not have seen that explain more :

b12deficiency.info/films

b12deficiency.info/signs-an... (templates for writing to your doctor)

cmim.org/pdf2014/funcion.ph...

The above latest BMJ research document is supported by many research papers and has a useful summary. It also tells GP that, once b12 treatment is started, the test results don't mean anything and blood levels are not reflective of how effective the treatment is - it is the clinical condition of the patient that matters....

I hope the above helps and you begin to get some answers soon. If you have any problems with GP, the Pernicious Anaemia Society are very helpful and will often intervene on your behalf. Tel: 01656 769 717

B12 is used by a lot of systems in the body - it is a key factor in healthy cell reproduction - which is how deficiency leads to anaemia and low iron. It also plays a key part in maintaining the lining around nerve cells - which can affect you in lots of ways - eg problems with nerve sensations throughout the body ... but also affects in the brain (neuro-psychiatric) such as depression and anxiety.

So, not sure that it would be the low iron that was causing the anxiety - but the low B12.

Are you being treated for B12D and if so how - not clear from your response to Polaris.

GPs can assume that it is due to lack of B12 in diet when actually it is an absorption problem. It is possible to treat an absorption problem by flooding the gut with large amounts of B12 (more than 1000mcg a day) as 1% of B12 is absorbed outside the ileum (which is where the absorption problem occurs) but this doesn't work for everyone.
