I'd appreciate information on where/how to dispose of a sharps bin.

If you're in the UK, it will probably depend on your local authority - best to search for your local council and sharps disposal. e.g. for me, is a selected set of local pharmacies, or the council will collect (via a phone request) if you can't get to the pharmacy.

From this question being asked before, it was discovered it varies from council to council. In some areas, Pharmacies take them, mine do not. My Surgery will take them, but others have said they do not have that facility. Try whichever would be easiest for you first, I would suggest 🙂

yeah look on your local council website. Ours has a wheelie bin placed outside their office doors which are locked away out of office hours. So I take mine down whenever I have a day off work.

I have to book a collection date with my local district council (UK) and leave it outside in a designated safe place from 7am on that day and it is collected. Magic!

my local council (Somerset) collects old one and leaves me a new one. Collection is from 5 am so I leave on doorstep! Ironically today is collection day! And it’s free … at point of use … another way my council tax is spent 😂

Most but not all local authorities will collect a sharps bin but it has to be a correct sharps bin with a yellow or orange lid. Not a purple lid, which is for arthritis drugs.

You can ask your GP to prescribe a correct sharps box. Then you can collect it from your pharmacist. Then you can call your local authority to collect the sharps bin. MY LA say to seal the bin and leave it outside on the pre-agreed day. the will then collect it. Then reorder a new sharps bin.

if your GP wont prescribe a sharps bin, you can buy one from boots or online £1.91 from Medisave. (looks like free shipping). if it the right colour and sealed, your LA should dispose of it as above.
