High B12 and symptoms

Can someone tell me if its possible to still have symptoms when your levels are over 2000? Having a lot of menstrual problems, tiredness, low mood, anxiety and tingling fingers. I am 47 so i know i could also be perimenopausal. My level was 250 before supplementing with sublinguals as doctor said this level was in range.

If you are supplementing with sublinguals then the serum B12 isn't really going to mean much and certainly won't be a good guide as to how well you are metabolising the B12 you are taking in.

Do you know what your folate levels are like - you need to keep those high in order to be able to use B12.

It might also be the form of B12 you are taking - presume it is methyl if sublingual - isn't necessarily the right one for you. I find that hydroxocobalamin works best for me with the mood and anxiety though methyl seems to be best for tingling.

Have you tried keeping a diary of the symptoms and see if they show any correlation with periods. I wouldn't say that that would rule out B12 as being a factor as I find that my anxiety and mood problems are a bit worse just before the period but they are noticeably worse if I haven't got my B12 levels right.

Given your age - at 47 I'd be inclined to talk to GP if you then it might be peri-menopausal as it is a bit on the early side which puts you at higher risk of osteoporosis.

However, 250 is definitely in the range where the symptoms could have been B12 related.

Hi Gambit thanks for replying. I am using methyl jarrows sublingual. I am also supplementing folate not sure of numbers yet, awaiting printout of results. I also have Hashimotos and low vitamin which i am supplementing for.

I know i am perimenopausal as i have skipped a few periods in the last yr and this mth i have had a very one lasting 3wks although was mostly spotting and annoying.

Its difficult to determine what is causing the symptoms as i have a lot going on at the moment. My thyroid is also stable Atm.

Sorry to hear that you have got so much to contend with - one of the rotten things about B12D is that it so often happens with other multiple problems which makes things difficult.

I'm well above 1500 which is the max on the B12 test here in the USA. And I still get symptoms.

Keep a log. There is a 24 hour delay for a symptom from an offending food item because the gut is involved.

Stress is another thing that consumes B12 faster.

Hello,

It takes 6-12 months for the Vitamins to show results after being injected. My level was 199 and post injections it is 1350 but I have not experienced even 1% improvement yet. It's been 8 weeks since my level went upto 1350. Be patient and wait.

Wish you a speedy recovery !
