Solgar B1 horse pills

Decided to start B1. Bought Solgar 500MG tablets. How in hell do you swallow these horse pills? I think they are the biggest pills I’ve ever had. Tried cutting them in half and they still stick in my throat like a burdock. Can you crush them? Solgar was recommended by many on the forum.

Most on here take vitacost because they are so much easier to swallow. I get mine from vitacost.com

Thanks. I take it you mean the Vitacost brand. How many MG can you get?

I use G&G , a UK brand from Amazon but they are tough to swallow too. Using warm water makes a difference; I don't find it easy but practice helps though not last thing at night! Its worth getting the knack if you can - I can swallow my 1 gm vit C tablets now too ...

I know what you mean. I resorted to chewing them quickly then washing down with water, then immediately chewing a vit c tablet to mask the awful taste. The vita cost caps are much better.

Found I could swallow the solgar tablets if quickly dipped in butter first ( anchor spreadable since you ask) G&G brand much easier to swallow for me though, no butter needed😋

I mostly take thiamine via IM injections, but when I need oral administration I use bulk powder from BulkSupplements.com 1/8 tsp = 250mg. It dissolves easily in water or juice. Thanks and hope it helps - JG

It did look a but daunting at first because of the size but I just chew it up as I find them fairly soft and don't taste bad (as I'm gulping down water).

You put them in the cabinet and save them as backups for the day you run out of the good ones. Vita cost sells the (capsules) 500mg pills that slide down and you can't even hardly feel them. Good prices too.

I take them 2 at a time with a Large mouthful of high fat Greek yoghurt. Previously I’ve gagged on them taken with only water - quite hazardous and painful! Looking forward to getting the Vitacost capsules now I’m in Australia not UK...

Nitro53,

Yes, the Solgar Thiamine HCI tablets are a bit daunting and that is why some members have resorted to chewing them up in order to swallow them, whereas the Vitacost capsules house brand, also at 500 mg are much smaller and easier to swallow. This is a very important consideration for some PWPs who have difficulty swallowing already or no longer feel confident about swallowing. For those who are so inclined, the bulk Thiamine HCL powder is another option, however the powder is fairly bitter even if mixed into a sport drink like Gatorade. The powder can be put in yogurt to try and mask the bitterness. One drawback to the powder is that it is not at all convenient when you are out and about as you have to measure the exact amount, preferably with a digital scale and then dissolve it into a liquid or mix into something like yogurt. What some have done who prefer the bulk powder is to order the Vitacost 500 mg Thiamine HCL capsules to use when not at home and then the powder when at home.

If it was for me and I was just starting to test Thiamine HCL/ HCI, I would start with the capsules because they are already accurately premeasured and accuracy is important when trying to find your correct dose. Once I found my correct dose, then I might consider experimenting with the bulk powder if I was looking for a way to avoid the fillers and gelatin capsules which I would be taking indefinitely.

There are also 100 mg capsules available which in some instances may make it easier to fine tune my dose.

Lastly and importantly when testing HDT/B-1, it has been shown on this forum that the effective dose range is any where from 25 mg per day up to 4,000 mg per day!

We had the same problem! Still have 2 bottles of them in the cupboard.

We re in the U.K. there is a capsule version made by G&G reasonable price on Amazon and no probs with swallowing! Only buy capsules now - try not to worry about the soluble coating!

We buy the 500mgs.

I always check now as we ve been caught out a few times and the result is a large collection of unusable 💊!
