I got a case of the flu this week. I took one dose of tamiflu. Two hours later my nausea increased to the point that i vomited a few times. So i stopped taking it. However, i noticed that since that day my PD symptoms have substantially decreased. I wonder if there's a connection there or if it's just my magical mythical 23 day cycle. Anybody know something about Tamiflu???
Tamiflu!: I got a case of the flu this week... - Cure Parkinson's
Tamiflu!
Found some Googlings
1. it is somewhat neuroprotective
parkinsonsnewstoday.com/201...
2. It increases dopamine in the prefrontal cortex
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/184...
So theres my answer, I think. Maybe the drug repurposing dept should look into it. What do you say, Michael J Fox?
There are a lot of medicines that a person with Parkinson's should try to avoid. Here is a website if you scroll through it gives you a list. For cold medicine you want to avoid anything with Dextromethorphan in it. Not as easy as it sounds what I found to work best is Musinex. You still need to read the label one version has it in it and one doesn't. I'm not sure if Tamiflu has it or not.
i experienced the same using benadryl but i don't think using this OTC drug is healthy. are you taking Azilect? it clearly states interaction with cough suppressants and demarol pain killers.
No pd meds here. Amino acid therapy. I cross reference for interactions as though i were on levadopa.
Tamiflu is an antiviral med used to minimize the flu's severity and duration. It works on viruses in the respiratory tract. I would say your PD reaction is coincidental. Hope you feel better soon.
Amantadine, which is commonly prescribed for pd, is essentially a flu mediation originally, so maybe there is some connection.
At first i thought it was psychosomatic. Then i thought my pd was caused by a virus. But if you look at my googlings in the first reply of this thread you will see the scientific reason why it made me feel good.
